Job description

The IT Field Support Specialist II is a field-focused IT generalist who provides hands-on and virtual support for Interstates jobsites, regional offices, and project locations. The role supports craft workers, site supervisors, and project teams by keeping hardware, software, connectivity, and standard IT processes working reliably, while traveling to key jobsites during ramp-up periods, outages, routine maintenance, and craft-focused events.

When not traveling, the Specialist handles standard IT support tickets from Tulsa or a home office and stays fully engaged with the IT Support team. They also serve as a subject-matter expert for jobsite and craft technology, documenting best practices, creating knowledge articles and SOPs, and helping standardize support so issues can be resolved without requiring a site visit.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide hands-on and remote IT support for jobsites, trailers, regional offices, and project locations.
  • Serve as the primary IT presence in the field for craft workers, site supervisors, and project teams.
  • Troubleshoot, configure, and replace field devices including laptops, monitors, printers, scanners, iPads, and video units.
  • Support basic jobsite networking and connectivity, including access points, switches, Starlink or similar equipment, and cabling under direction.
  • Perform proactive site walkthroughs to identify and resolve IT issues before they impact work.
  • Respond to on-site issues that may otherwise remain unresolved due to distance from centralized IT resources.
  • Capture field knowledge and turn it into articles, guides, and SOPs for the broader IT team.
  • Help standardize jobsite support and enable remote troubleshooting to reduce the need for site visits.
  • Coordinate with IT Support, Network Support, Systems Administration, Cybersecurity, and field leadership to align work with company standards.
  • Work general IT support tickets when not traveling and capacity allows.
  • Ensure compliance with security, privacy, and acceptable-use policies.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience accepted.
  • 4+ years of hands-on IT support experience in hardware, software, and basic networking, preferably in a field, multi-site, or distributed environment.
  • Working knowledge of Windows endpoints, Microsoft 365, printers, scanners, peripherals, video conferencing, and standard business applications.
  • Basic networking skills, including the ability to install, validate, and troubleshoot access points, switches, and site connectivity under direction.
  • Ability to work independently in unstructured environments, prioritize effectively, and use sound judgment without constant supervision.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to create knowledge articles, SOPs, and technical documentation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting IT in construction, manufacturing, field operations, or industrial environments.
  • Familiarity with endpoint management, MDM, device imaging, and asset lifecycle processes.
  • Exposure to Meraki access points, Cisco networking gear, Starlink, or similar field connectivity solutions.
  • Experience with ITSM tools such as Freshservice or ServiceNow; ITIL Foundation awareness preferred.
  • Experience creating knowledge bases, writing SOPs, or leading informal training and peer enablement.
  • Familiarity with modular design, systems thinking, continual process improvement, DevOps, SDLC, or related IT concepts.
  • Relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft credentials, Tanium, or similar are highly desired.

Compensation: The pay range for this position is $51,910 to $64,890+ benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by the experience and education required, and level of responsibility. The range posted for this role represents a range that Interstates, in good faith, believes it is willing to pay at the time of this posting. The pay is determined by job related skills, training, education, and experience.
