The Project Controls, Growth and Strategic Investments support the project management office (PMO) for the growth of investments at US Utilities. Under supervision from the PMO leadership, this role will provide financial oversight over the growth projects, including supporting the budget and forecast processes, tracking of spend to project completion, and monitoring operational processes relating to the project lifecycle and procure to pay.

The Project Controls, Growth and Strategic Investments will serve as a finance liaison for the PMO, with day-to-day coordination with teams in Controllership, FP&A, and Regulatory Affairs. In addition, this role will work cross functionally with supporting areas, such as the IT, Supply Chain, Engineering, Operations, and the AES Shared Services center.

The Project Controls, Growth and Strategic Investments will work with operations and other support functions to drive efficiencies and system adoption. This role will also support system implementations impacting the growth investments at the US Utilities and the PMO leadership with regulatory filings and the preparation of management reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision, serves as the finance liaison for PMO and coordinates with supporting areas including IT, Supply Chain, Engineering, Operations, and the AES Shared Services center.
  • Coordinate and manage digital access needs for contractors, including provisioning, modifying, and revoking accounts, permissions, and system access in a timely manner.
  • Supports the tracking of projects spent for the PMO and regulatory reporting.
  • Monitor end-to-end capital project lifecycle processes, from project creation to closure, purchase requisitions, and vendor payments, ensuring strong controls and operational excellence.
  • Supports Digital Strategy and represents PMO for the implementation of Work Management system, Copperleaf system, and supports the implementation of Robotic Processing Automation and SAP enhancements for process efficiencies (SAP IM-PS / SAP PM / SAP MM / SAP FI / ERPRPC - FIORI)
  • Oversee portfolio to optimize investment decisions, control costs, and ensure alignment with enterprise strategy.
  • Monitor budget performance against plan, including forecasts, variances, and trends, and proactively identify risks, underspend, or overruns.
  • Supports the PMO leadership with the preparation of regulatory filings, and presentations/reporting to the rest of the PMO and Senior Leaders.
  • Supports the PMO leadership with ad hoc projects.

Qualifications

  • Strong experience with SAP (mandatory)
  • Experience with Power Plan (preferred)
  • Power BI - dashboards, reports, and visualizations. (preferred)
  • Understanding of fixed assets accounting
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections
  • Ability to deal with fast-paced, constantly changing environments with high levels of complexity and ambiguity
  • Ability to work in a collaborative manner with business leaders and to balance priorities and achieve critical deadlines; capable of independent and critical, forward-looking and preemptive thought analysis.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance or related field, required
  • Experience in Utility, Power or Energy industry, preferred
