What is a virtual mediator?

A Virtual Mediator is a professional who facilitates conflict resolution between parties through online platforms rather than in-person meetings. They help individuals, businesses, or organizations negotiate agreements and settle disputes efficiently through video conferencing, email, or other digital communication tools. Virtual Mediators use conflict resolution techniques to ensure fair and productive discussions while maintaining neutrality. This role is commonly used in legal disputes, workplace conflicts, and family mediation. It allows for flexible scheduling and broader accessibility for clients who may be in different locations.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a virtual mediator?

As a Virtual Mediator, your daily responsibilities may include facilitating virtual mediation sessions, maintaining detailed records of cases, and communicating with parties via email or secure online platforms to schedule meetings and clarify issues. You’ll be tasked with guiding disputing parties through structured discussions, helping them identify common ground, and drafting agreements when resolutions are reached. Additionally, you may need to review relevant documents or evidence submitted digitally before sessions and stay updated on best mediation practices and legal requirements. This role often involves working independently, but collaboration with other mediators, legal professionals, or administrative staff is sometimes necessary to ensure seamless case management and compliance with regulations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the virtual mediator position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Virtual Mediator, strong conflict resolution abilities, knowledge of mediation practices, and a background in law, social work, or a related field are essential. Familiarity with video conferencing platforms, online case management systems, and professional mediation certifications (such as those recognized by the American Arbitration Association) are commonly required. Exceptional active listening, emotional intelligence, and the ability to remain neutral under pressure will set candidates apart. These competencies ensure fair and effective resolution of disputes in virtual settings while maintaining professionalism and trust among participants.

Can I make a living as a virtual mediator?

A virtual mediator can earn a living by providing online dispute resolution services, often working as an independent contractor or for mediation firms. Income varies based on experience, specialization, client base, and the number of cases handled, with some mediators earning full-time wages and others supplementing income through part-time work. Building a strong reputation and obtaining relevant certifications can improve earning potential in this field.

Can you work remotely as a virtual mediator?

Yes, virtual mediators often work remotely, utilizing video conferencing and online communication tools to facilitate dispute resolution. Remote work allows flexibility in scheduling and location, but mediators typically need strong communication skills and relevant certifications to perform effectively online.

In this role, you'll become part of a dedicated, long-term team of legal professionals, partnering directly with attorneys while receiving ongoing support from Equivity's internal operations and leadership. We are looking for a highly organized, proactive professional who thrives in a fast-paced litigation environment and can effectively manage multiple cases from inception through trial.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage litigation matters from intake through resolution while maintaining organized case files

  • Prepare trial materials, including exhibit binders, witness lists, trial notebooks, and courtroom logistics
  • Conduct legal and factual research and summarize findings for attorney review
  • Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, courts, vendors, and experts
  • Proactively monitor case progression, follow up on outstanding items, and anticipate attorney needs
About You
  • 3+ years of recent litigation paralegal experience in a law firm
  • Experience in one or more of the following: commercial litigation, personal injury, employment law, real estate litigation, insurance defense, construction litigation, business litigation, or other civil litigation

  • Experience with state and/or federal court e-filing
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and time management skills
  • Ability to independently manage multiple active litigation matters
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat
  • Experience with litigation case management software (Clio or similar is a plus)
  • Windows-based computer preferred
  • Availability and responsiveness within one hour during standard business hours (9:00 AM–6:00 PM)
Why You'll Love Working Here
At Equivity, you become part of a dedicated, internally managed team of legal professionals—not a temporary placement. We provide ongoing work with established attorneys while maintaining the flexibility of remote work. You'll be supported by an experienced operations team and work in a collaborative, professional environment that values quality, responsiveness, and long-term relationships.
Benefits and compensation:
  • $26 per hour
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Paid sick time and employee discounts
