Virtual Library information

What is a virtual library?

Virtual libraries are digital platforms that provide access to a wide range of electronic resources, such as e-books, journals, databases, and multimedia content. Unlike traditional libraries, virtual libraries are accessible online from anywhere with an internet connection, allowing users to search, borrow, and read materials remotely. They often offer research assistance, digital archives, and interactive tools to support learning and research. Virtual libraries are commonly used by students, educators, and researchers to access information quickly and efficiently.

How does a virtual library specialist typically collaborate with educators and students in a remote setting?

Virtual Library Specialists play a key role in supporting both educators and students by curating digital resources, facilitating access to e-books and databases, and offering virtual research assistance. They often conduct online workshops or training sessions to help users navigate digital collections and use research tools effectively. Collaboration is typically achieved through video calls, email, and learning management systems, ensuring that users receive timely support and resources tailored to their academic needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a virtual librarian, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Virtual Librarian, you need a background in library and information science, typically with an MLS/MLIS degree, and strong research and information management skills. Familiarity with digital library platforms, online databases, and content management systems is often required. Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving abilities help virtual librarians support users effectively in a remote environment. These skills are crucial for providing seamless access to information, guiding patrons, and maintaining efficient digital library services.

Both roles require similar credentials, but their focus differs: one on the digital infrastructure, the other on user support and information management.

Job description

Job Description:

At Pentair, you will work alongside passionate problem-solvers who are committed to the future of our planet. We put our mission into practice, helping the world sustainably move, improve, and enjoy water, life's most essential resource. From our residential water filtration to industrial water management to pool products and more, our 9,000 global employees serve customers in more than 150 countries, working to help create a better world for people and the planet through smart, sustainable water solutions.

We have an opportunity for a Training Enablement Manager to join our Bishop Woods, WI team. You will build scalable product education that enables the residential Water Supply & Disposal channel, including distribution partners and contractors, and internal Pentair Sales and Customer Service representatives to confidently understand, position, troubleshoot, and apply Pentair products in real-world conditions. The role translates complex products, applications, and competitive information into practical training that improves consistency, adoption, customer experience, and commercial impact across each audience. The role serves as a connective layer across Product Management, Engineering, Sales, Customer Service, Channel Marketing, Product Marketing, Events, Marketing Operations, and Demand Generation, turning business priorities, field feedback, product knowledge, and customer pain points into structured learning programs. Training is delivered through a digital-first model, including on-demand video, quick-tip content, technical documentation, and live virtual sessions, with targeted in-person instruction reserved for situations where hands-on education adds unique value. This is a hands-on individual contributor role that owns curriculum strategy and execution while using agency and internal creative support to scale production quality and reach.

You will:

  • Curriculum Development & Content
    • Design and maintain a scalable training curriculum for residential contractors, distribution partners, Sales, and Customer Service, with content calibrated to the knowledge needs, job context, and decision points of each audience.
    • Develop contractor-facing education that translates complex technical and application concepts into job-site-ready learning that builds product confidence and reduces installation errors.
    • Build Sales and Customer Service enablement content that improves product knowledge, customer conversation quality, competitive readiness, and consistency across customer interactions.
    • Develop competitive training that clearly articulates where Pentair outperforms alternatives and equips teams to position those advantages credibly in the field.
    • Own training readiness for new product launches, ensuring internal teams, distributor partners, and contractors have the right education before and after launch to support adoption and confident product application.
  • Digital-First Delivery
    • Own the digital training model, building and managing an on-demand library of instructional video, quick-tip formats, technical guides, and blog-style education hosted on internal and approved third-party platforms.
    • Produce practical training content independently where speed and simplicity are appropriate, including self-filmed quick-tip videos, short demonstrations, scripts, outlines, and job aids, while coordinating with agency or internal creative resources for higher-production assets.
    • Lead live virtual training sessions for contractors and internal teams that complement on-demand content with real-time engagement and Q&A.
    • Execute targeted in-person training at trade events, distributor locations, or hands-on clinics where physical demonstration adds learning value that digital formats cannot replicate.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership
    • Engage cross-functional partners across Product Management, Engineering, Sales, Customer Service, Channel Marketing, Product Marketing, Events, Marketing Operations, and Demand Generation to identify business priorities, customer confusion points, launch needs, and field feedback that should inform training priorities.
    • Convert validated product, technical, commercial, and customer insights into training-ready content that is accurate, practical, audience-specific, and field-appropriate.
    • Collaborate with Customer Service to identify high-frequency support issues and product misapplication patterns that training can proactively reduce.
    • Coordinate with marketing team members to align training content with product launches, channel programs, campaigns, customer journeys, events, and digital platforms so education is accessible at the right moments.
    • Create feedback loops across customer-facing and commercial teams to identify recurring knowledge gaps and prioritize training updates that improve customer experience and reduce avoidable friction.
  • Performance Measurement & Optimization
    • Define, track, and report on a training performance framework that measures direct learning activity and monitors business indicators the training program is intended to influence.
    • Analyze engagement, completion, feedback, and performance data to identify what is working and what is not, then improve underperforming programs and scale formats that drive strong participation, comprehension, and adoption.
    • Establish a feedback loop – gathering input from trained audiences, Sales, and Customer Service to validate training effectiveness and continuously improve curriculum quality.
    • Maintain an always-on enablement approach, ensuring training content remains current as products, applications, competitors, customer needs, and market conditions evolve.

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Willingness and ability to travel 20-25% as required by business needs.
  • 5–8+ years of experience in training, enablement, or product education within a B2B manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering digital-first training, including instructional video, quick-tip content, on-demand learning, job aids, and webinar facilitation.
  • Experience educating contractors, installers, technicians, and/or channel partners, with proven ability to simplify complex technical concepts into practical learning.
  • Proven track record of enabling internal Sales and Customer Service teams with product knowledge, competitive positioning, and skills-based training.
  • Demonstrated ability to measure training effectiveness and connect programs to downstream business outcomes, with experience adjusting content based on performance data.
  • Familiarity with distributor, dealer, or contractor channel structures common in building products or technical trade markets.
  • Experience in a two-step distribution model where training must reach both distributor partners and end contractors.
  • Background in water supply, water disposal, HVAC, plumbing, or adjacent technical product categories.
  • Experience with education platforms is preferred.
