Description
The College of Natural and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) invites applications for a full time, non-tenure track Associate Dean Position at its branch campus in Rockville, MD at The Universities at Shady Grove.
Reporting to the Associate Dean of Shady Grove Affairs in the College of Natural and Mathematical Sciences, this position serves as the Program Director of UMBC's newly launched program leading to a bachelor's degree in Translational Life Science Technology (TLST). This is the first undergraduate STEM program being exclusively launched at UMBC's Universities of Shady Grove campus to more effectively build linkages to the growing biotechnology industry hub in Montgomery County, Maryland. The TLST program was created and designed to align with the emerging field and need for expertise in translational science of understanding the scientific and operational process for taking a scientific discovery from the laboratory to clinical solutions.
The incumbent will teach at least one course per semester in the program. In addition to teaching, the incumbent will oversee curriculum and instruction; recruit and lead qualified part-time faculty; collaborate with the Division of Professional Studies (UMBC-Shady Grove's administrative division) on program marketing, student recruitment and retention activities; advise students; pursue business development opportunities with industry, particularly for student internships; and carry out the necessary administrative duties associated with academic program oversight, such as course/faculty scheduling and facilitating effective program growth.

Qualifications
Candidates should have a master's degree (doctoral degree preferred) in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or a relevant field and at least two years of relevant academic or professional experience, preferably in the biotechnology industry, translational science/medicine research or scientific government agency. Teaching experience in classroom and/or on-line environments within biology, chemistry, biochemistry or related fields at the undergraduate or graduate levels is desired as well as experience working with community college and transfer students. Candidates should have strong organizational, management, and interpersonal skills necessary to manage and grow a highly active and visible academic program. Exceptional candidates will be innovative thinkers, highly functional in dynamic environments, able to network with industry, government and academic practitioners, and enjoy working in transdisciplinary environments.
