UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh - Same Day Surgery is hiring a full-time Registered Nurse (RN) to join our fast-paced, patient-focused perioperative team!

Provide high-quality preoperative and postoperative nursing care for pediatric surgical patients
Collaborate closely with anesthesia and surgical teams to ensure exceptional patient outcomes and experience
Work across the full perioperative continuum, supporting families and patients through same-day procedures
Enjoy a Monday-Friday rotating schedule (6a-10p shifts across varied start times) with no nights, weekends, or UPMC-recognized holidays - Rotating Shift (6a-2:30p, 6a-4:30p, 8a-4:30p, 8a-6:30p, 8:30a-5p; 9a-7:30p, 10a-8:30p, 11:30a-10p, 1:30p-10p)

  • Uses critical thinking to identify and address clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual patient needs; aligns practice with quality, safety, and patient experience goals.
  • Builds compassionate relationships with patients, families, and colleagues to enhance care delivery.
  • Identifies opportunities for quality and workplace improvement; integrates evidence-based practice and participates in innovation initiatives.
  • Precepts and mentors students and new staff; promotes continuous learning through feedback, education, and sharing professional resources.
  • Serves as a unit leader/role model through clinical expertise, teaching, and participation in peer review and shared governance; leads and supports team initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience
Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
BSN preferred, but not required
Demonstrated ability to provide age-appropriate care based on patient population served
Strong understanding of growth and development across the lifespan
Ability to assess, interpret, and respond to patient-specific clinical needs

Professional Expectations & Advancement
Must achieve and maintain a "Solid/Strong/Good" or higher on Professional Staff Nurse Performance Evaluations
Career ladder advancement available based on performance and professional growth
Completion of annual professional contributions aligned with department, hospital, or system goals OR
Obtain and maintain a UPMC-approved nursing certification within 1 year of hire/transfer
Certification requirement may be waived if candidate holds a Master's in Nursing or DNP
If BSN is held, a Master's degree in a related field may substitute for certification

Licensure, Certifications, & Clearances

  • Valid in the state of practice or from a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) participating state
  • Candidates relocating to a non-compact state must obtain in-state licensure within 60 days of residency change
    BLS/CPR certification (AHA) required within 30 days of hire
    UPMC-approved nursing certification preferred (see above requirements for timeline and alternatives)
  • Act 31, 33, 34, 73 clearances
