What you'll do

As an Unclaimed Property Tax Manager within the Indirect Tax group, you will provide tax consulting and compliance services to a diverse client base in a variety of industry sectors. You will work directly with the client, manage the tax engagement team, have access to an elite group of specialists when needed, and be connected to a strong support system from firm Leadership to ensure you are set up for success in your role and career.

Responsibilities include

  • You'll help with assessing our client's state and local tax burden and recommend solutions that support their overall business objectives to ensure that their filling positions are consistent with good business practices and with the states applicable tax laws and rules.
  • Our team helps our clients comply with complex laws and requirements related to uncashed payroll checks, aged accounts receivable credits, and other types of abandoned and unclaimed property
  • Assist multi-state companies with state unclaimed property matters including audit defense, voluntary compliance, annual reporting, developing policies and procedures, and consulting.
  • Review unclaimed property compliance processes and making recommendations for improvement
  • Assist Deloitte audit teams with review and analysis of unclaimed property reserves.
  • Assist multi-state companies with unclaimed property audits which includes preparing clients for discussions with auditors, review document requests, review audit assessments, and representing the client at meetings.
  • Research and draft technical memoranda regarding the jurisdictions unclaimed property compliance rules
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop staff

The Team

Deloitte's Indirect Tax group is the largest practice in the United States with more than 1,000 professionals nationwide. Our Unclaimed Property professionals include former state tax auditors and administrators, industry personnel, tax practitioners, accounting specialists, and technology personnel with numerous years of multistate tax experience. Collectively, our team has significant experience with the requirements and nuances of jurisdictions in all 50 states. Our specific services include state income and franchise tax, indirect tax, business restructuring, credits and incentives, sales and use tax outsourcing, excise tax, property tax, state strategic tax review, and state tax controversy.

Qualifications

Required

  • Ability to perform job responsibilities within a hybrid work model that requires US Tax professionals to co-locate in person 2-3 days per week
  • 5+ years' progressive experience in state and local tax with a focus on Unclaimed Property tax, specifically.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or other related field
  • Limited immigration sponsorship may be available
  • One of the following active accreditations obtained, in process, or willing and able to obtain:
    • Licensed CPA in state of practice/primary office if eligible to sit for the CPA exam
    • If not CPA eligible:
      • Licensed attorney
      • Enrolled Agent
      • CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner)
  • Ability to travel up to 10%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve

Preferred

  • Advanced degree such as Masters of Tax, JD, and/or LLM.
  • Demonstrable tax knowledge across a wide range of state and local tax areas including state tax compliance, tax planning, tax analysis, and tax research.
  • Previous consulting experience from a large accounting or law firm.
  • Adept communicator with advanced writing skills, comfortable creating and delivering presentations across all levels of an organization.
  • Advanced knowledge of OneSource, GoSystems and/or similar tax software and a strong interest in learning new technology.

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $105,375 to $215,375.

You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
