Salary Range: $48,000 - $50,000/annually (based on experience)

About the Role:
The Assistant Director will be the primary advisor for 80 participants of the TRIO Student Support Services program. They will monitor participant progress and will plan and implement meetings and events for the TRIO Student Support Services program.

Key Responsibilities:

The following is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. Other duties logically associated with this position may be assigned. All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.

1. Overriding Expectation:

  • Demonstrate strong customer service and/or student advocacy through a positive attitude of approachability, adaptability, strong problem-solving and desire to identify and support student success
  • Engage in behaviors that create an inclusive environment in which all people are valued and supported
  • Go beyond the easiest or surface answer for a student and get to the root cause of the problem, question or issue to solve it as quickly and professionally as possible

2. Academically advise up to 80 assigned participants to ensure successful completion of desired program and closely monitor student persistence each term employing a proactive advising approach

3. Assist students in identifying their academic, financial, and career needs and effectively help them overcome obstacles preventing them from success

4. Assist students in completing academic and financial aid appeals to support student retention

5. Support students with FAFSA completion and successful transfer to a 4-yr college or university

6. Co-develop and lead the Summer and Winter Institutes as well as TRIO Day for Graduates event each year

7. Co-develop and lead study and life skills workshop series each fall and spring semester for program participants

8. Co-coordinate two campus visits to 4-year institutions per year

9. Keep accurate records to ensure proper tracking of grant participant progress

10. Make presentations and communicate with various faculty, staff, and student groups

11. Participate in professional trainings necessary to carry out duties pertaining to grant compliance and college policy and procedures

12. Assist grant team with grant application during renewal period as necessary

13. Attend related local, state, and/or regional conferences and training programs as outlined in the grant

14. Work as a team member within Sponsored Programs to improve services to, and retention of, students

15. Other duties logically associated with position

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, Student Personnel, Guidance, Education, or a related field
  • Excellent problem solving and communication skills
  • Experience in federal educational projects or student personnel work requiring evaluation and documentation procedures
  • Knowledge of and experience in relating to the academic, social, and economic needs of first generation, disabled, and low-income students, and those who meet the criteria as outline under Section 427 of the General Education Provisions Act (GEPA)

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree in psychology, Student Personnel, Guidance, Education, or a related field.
  • 2 years of work experience in TRIO Programs
