Job Summary:

The Assistant Director of TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) will work with the Director of TRIO SSS todevelop, plan, and implement support services which result in increased academic performance, retention, and graduation rates of program participants. The assistant director provides academic advising, and teaches TRiOSSS EDGE success seminars, and coordinates activities recruitment and retention services for the program.Additionally the Assistant Director provides administrative and office support for the TRiO Student Support Services Program. Provides day-to-day support for the TRiO SSS office, including: student/staff scheduling, student records and data management, front-line problem solving and referrals for students, and assists TRiO Director with federal compliance issues. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education

The Assistant Director, TRiO Student Support Services assists program participants (low income, firstgeneration, and/or disabled) to succeed in college by helping them determine appropriate academic goals andselect academic schedules appropriate for their stated academic goals. The Assistant Director, TRiO Student Support Services guides pre-majors in the selection of academic majors and directs students to resources within the University that provide assistance in identifying academic majors and career choices, as appropriate. The Assistant Director, TRiO Student Support Services manages TRiO - Student Support Services programs relating to career guidance, graduate school motivation, test preparation, disabled student issues, student leadership, tutoring, and study skills.

Salary Range:$60,000 - $64,000

Qualification Standards:

  • A minimum three years' experience designing, managing or implementing a similar grant project

  • Significant and successful experiences working with academically disadvantaged, low-income, first generation populations

  • Extensive administrative, counseling or teaching experience

  • Experience with budget development and budget monitoring

  • Demonstrated success in developing services, activities and policy initiatives

  • Effective written and oral communication skills

  • Extensive experience in the use of relevant technologies, particularly for evaluation andassessment purposes

Education:

  • Master's Degree in human development, counseling, psychology, education, social welfare, student affairs,or related field of study.

Experience:

  • Minimum of three years of professional experience administering programs serving academically under-prepared students.

  • Excellent written communication skills as evidenced by application materials.

  • Knowledge of theories and practices for college student development and identity formation, group development and dynamics;

  • Experience conducting programs and workshops; Demonstrated commitment to diversity education and inclusion.

  • Additionally, must have experience working with disadvantaged students, students from underrepresented populations, and/or students with disabilities.

  • Experience overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the target population.

Working Conditions:

  • Special working conditions include occasional evening and weekend hours to support TRIO Student Support Services campus, programmatic, and institutional events, which may take place indoors or outdoors, with flexibility as program and University needs require.
