Job description

Job Title: Traveling IT Field Technician (1099 Contractor)

Department: Operations

Location: Will be traveling nationwide and technicians will be away from home for 3 to 4 weeks at time.


Job Title: IT Traveling Project Technician (Nationwide) โ€“ 1099 Contractor

Location: Will be traveling nationwide and technicians will be away from home for 3 to 4 weeks at time.

Role Summary/Objective:

As an IT Traveling Project Technician, you will be responsible for responding to break/fix service tickets across multiple states. You will travel to various government office locations, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues within established Service Level Agreement (SLA) timelines. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys traveling, problem-solving, providing top-notch customer service, and working independently in the field. This position is a travelโ€‘intensive position, requiring extended periods out of state, often for multiple weeks at a time.


This is a 1099 contractor role, on call as needed. All travel expenses will be paid for, aside from, per diem.

This role is project-to-project availability.


Key responsibilities:

  • Technicians support deployments, upgrades, troubleshooting, and maintenance of field equipment across various customer locations.
  • Work environments vary and may include airports, retail spaces, warehouses, and other commercial facilities.
  • Some projects require afterโ€‘hours or evening work based on customer availability and deployment windows.
  • Install, configure, and test kiosks and related hardware onsite.
  • Run diagnostic and automation tools, including:
  • Uberscript
  • Additional internal scripts (imaging tools, healthโ€‘check scripts, logโ€‘collection utilities)
  • Perform reimaging of devices as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Reprogram and configure cameras used within kiosk systems.
  • Update and validate software on signature pads and other peripherals.
  • Work with Zebra printers, including setup, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Document work performed, site conditions, and any escalations.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, project managers, and engineering teams.
  • Adapt to varying schedules, including evening or afterโ€‘hours project work.
  • Conduct inventory of company warehouses and storage locations when needed, ensuring accurate tracking of equipment and materials.

Technical Skills:

  • Ability to run and interpret Uberscript and other internal scripts.
  • Experience with:
  • Reimaging devices
  • Zebra printers
  • Camera reprogramming
  • Updating software on signature pads
  • Working knowledge of:
  • Windows OS
  • Basic networking (IP addressing, connectivity testing, VPN)
  • Hardware installation and configuration
  • Hardware and software experience is a strong plus.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong communication and customerโ€‘facing professionalism.
  • Ability to work independently while traveling.
  • Flexibility to adjust to changing schedules, environments, and project demands.
  • Strong organizational skills for inventory management tasks.

Physical requirements:

This is a physically demanding role.

  • Must be able to:
  • Lift, move, and position kiosks and equipment up to 150 lbs
  • Stand, bend, kneel, and work in tight spaces for extended periods
  • Safely use tools, carts, and lifting aids

Minimum Education, Experience, and Abilities:

  • Can reside anywhere in the United States but required to be near a major airport.
  • Minimum 2-3 yearsโ€™ experience in IT field service, with hands-on experience responding to break/fix service tickets.
  • Strong experience with IT hardware, including PCs, printers, cameras, biometric devices, and peripheral equipment.
  • Comfortable using and transporting tools and equipment.
  • Ability to submit detailed inventories and reports accurately and on time.
  • Clean background check and willingness to undergo an extensive security screening.
  • Mandatory item includes valid U. S Driver's License.
  • US Citizenship required by our customer base; no dual citizenship permitted.

Travel:

  • Frequent travel required, including:
  • Multiโ€‘week outโ€‘ofโ€‘state assignments
  • Shortโ€‘notice deployments

Compensation:

  • Inโ€‘state field service work (hourly rate of $25 per hour)
  • Outโ€‘ofโ€‘state field service or project work (daily rate pay, rate determined by project or company policy)
