We are looking for a truly exceptional, multitalented journalist who takes pride in a job well done and is passionate about building a journalism career at the apex of the sports, travel and event-planning industries. SportsTravel’s editorial products and events are the go-to resource for high-level decision makers in the sports-event industry. This influential audience includes national governing bodies, sanctioning organizations, college athletic conferences, professional teams and leagues, and youth and amateur sports organizations who depend on SportsTravel to help determine event locations, select venues, book hotel accommodations and build relationships to organize their events.

The associate editor provides digital coverage of the sports-event industry for SportsTravel's website and social media channels and represents the Sports Division at live events both internal and external. The right candidate has a strong editorial voice and passion for creating high-quality, original content. This role combines hands-on content creation with strategic editing and curation, while also serving as a representative of the Northstar Meetings Group Sports Division brands at industry events, hosted webinars and other industry functions. The associate editor will be a key contributor to our content strategy and a trusted partner to cross-functional teams.

The ideal candidate has 3-5 years’ experience reporting and editing for a website, newspaper, magazine or travel publication, can multitask and is a team player.

SportsTravel is a business-to-business publication and does not require daily deadline reporting from live sports events.

This is a remote position with a preference for candidates based in the eastern time zone of the United States. We also have offices in Rutherford, New Jersey and New York City for those who favor being in an office a few days a week.

What You’ll Do:

  • Track trends and builds and maintain business relationships within the sports-event industry
  • Research and write latest news and feature stories for SportsTravel website and social channels and oversee the Bid Bowl section
  • Assemble weekly SportsTravel e-newsletter in consultation with managing editor
  • Post latest news items to SportsTravelMagazine.com
  • Establish schedule for social media posts, monitor and post social media items to SportsTravel social media channels as well as Sports Division event websites
  • Maintain a front-facing presence and assistance role at Sports Division events, including moderating and/or introducing panels and speakers, assisting event staff where needed and working with managing editor to secure speakers at events
  • Attend industry meetings, press conferences, sports events, press trips, awards dinners and other events to report on them and represent SportsTravel and the Sports Division.
  • Work with custom media department as needed to ensure placement of custom media on SportsTravel website and social channels
  • Perform other related duties as required

The Essentials for Success:

  • 3–5 years' reporting and editing experience on a website, newspaper, magazine or travel publication
  • Ability to report with absolute accuracy and write compelling articles coherently on deadlines
  • Strong researching, interviewing, writing, editing and networking skills
  • Keen interest in and/or familiarity with sports at all levels, including esports
  • Willingness to moderate panels and speak at live events
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and WordPress
  • Ability and desire to travel
  • College degree or equivalent preferred in English, Journalism or Sports Management
