Job description

To be successful in this position, you will require strong writing skills, strategic thinking and the ability to have a meaningful perspective on industry nuances. 

As an entry level position, this is a great opportunity to sharpen your skills and learn the processes and programs of a leading media outlet. And, the Assistant Editor will work closely with a talented team to collaborate on projects and gain guidance.

This position is New York based. FCW is currently working under a hybrid format where in-office days are required at the Hearst Tower.

Ideal Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Arts in English, Journalism, Mass Communication or a related field 

  • One-two years in media / publishing

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe InCopy and Google Docs. Experience with Excel a plus.

In accordance with applicable Pay Transparency laws, FCW is required to include a reasonable estimate of compensation for this New York role.  The reasonable estimate for annual base salary if hired is $45,000 - $48,000.    A final decision on the successful candidate's starting salary will be based on a number of permissible factors, including but not limited to skills and experience, training, certifications, and education.

The Assistant Editor will be:

  • charged with ownership of category coverage
  • responsible for developing storylines
  • a member of the editorial team in content creation and bringing new story ideas to the table
  • tasked with proofreading pages during the production process of the print issue to assist the senior managing editor.

Travel to key industry events, trade shows and partner meetings is required, resulting in coverage for each FCW platform including the FCW1.com website, social platforms, videos and print.
