SUMMARY: DRIVES AMBULANCE OR WHEELCHAIR VAN AND/OR ASSISTS AMBULANCE DRIVER AND OR EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN IN TRANSPORTATION FROM ONE PLACE TO ANOTHER
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • NONE
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • ACCOMPANIES AND ASSISTS EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIANS ON CALLS. DRIVES AMBULANCES OR ASSISTS AMBULANCE DRIVERS IN TRANSPORTING SICK, INJURED, OR CONVALESCING PERSONS.
  • PLACES PATIENTS ON STRETCHERS AND LOADS STRETCHERS INTO AMBULANCES USUALLY WITH ASSISTANCE FROM OTHER ATTENDANTS.
    • WHEELCHAIRS ARE PUSHED BY HAND AND LOADED VIA LIFT IN WHEELCHAIR VANS
  • RESTRAINS OR SHACKLES VIOLENT PATIENTS WITH ASSISTANCE AND GUIDANCE OF EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN
    • IF WHEELCHAIR PATIENTS BECOME COMBATIVE UPGRADE TRANSPORT REPORTED TO DISPATCH
  • REMOVES AND REPLACES SOILED LINENS AND EQUIPMENT TO MAINTAIN SANITARY CONDITIONS.
  • REPLACES SUPPLIES AND DISPOSABLE ITEMS ON AMBULANCES.
  • REPORTS FACTS CONCERNING ACCIDENTS OR EMERGENCIES TO DISPATCH.
  • PROVIDE DISPATCH WITH UPDATES ON STATUS VIA ELECTRONIC DEVICES.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR EQUIVALENT REQUIRED.
  • CURRENT DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIRED WITH GOOD DRIVING HISTORY
  • MUST BE OVER THE AGE OF 21 (INSURANCE COVERAGE REASONS)
  • UNDERSTANDING OF RULES, REGULATIONS, POLICIES, AND PROCEDURES THAT APPLY TO AMBULANCE SERVICE.
  • GOOD INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION SKILLS.
  • ABILITY TO WORK WELL UNDER PRESSURE.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • PROLONGED PERIODS OF SITTING WHILE DRIVING.
  • MUST BE ABLE TO LIFT UP HEAVY OBJECTS SUCH AS STRETCHERS AND PATIENTS SAFELY WITH ASSISTANCE.
