JOB TITLE: Training Coordinator

DEPARTMENT: Hualapai Corrections Adult/Juvenile Divisions

CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time

SALARY: DOQ



Position Summary

The Training Coordinator is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating all training programs for the Hualapai Corrections Adult and Juvenile Divisions. This position ensures compliance with Tribal, Federal, State, Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), and other applicable correctional standards.


The Training Coordinator serves as the department's subject matter expert on staff development, certification tracking, policy-based training, and professional development while maintaining the ability to perform correctional officer duties as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the department's annual training plan.
  • Coordinate all new employee orientation and field training.
  • Schedule and conduct in-service training for Adult and Juvenile Division staff.
  • Ensure compliance with all mandatory annual training requirements.
  • Develop lesson plans and training curriculum.
  • Coordinate outside instructors and specialized training.
  • Maintain the department training calendar.
  • Conduct classroom, practical, and scenario-based instruction.
  • Ensure compliance with:
    • Bureau of Indian Affairs standards
    • PREA Standards
    • Tribal policies
    • Department policies
  • Prepare documentation for audits and inspections.
  • Maintain all required training records and certifications.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Communicate clearly in written and oral mediums
  • Must have knowledge of Native American culture and an understanding of the unique challenges, opportunities, and family impact associated with incarceration of Native American individuals.
  • Must be able to influence staff through effective communication.


Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum five (5) years of correctional experience.
  • Must pass a background check
  • Experience in both adult and juvenile corrections preferred.
  • Experience developing and conducting training programs.
