There are no direct reports with this position.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under close supervision, the Traffic Clerk performs a variety of warehouse traffic control duties, including logging, routing, shipping and tracking orders, and verifying information for internal and external customers. Employees in this job classification process and monitor pending shipments of products, coordinate the Distribution Department's logistical requirements, and coordinate the delivery of freight through transporters and carriers. This job class requires knowledge of all phases of the shipping and distribution processes; and the ability to record and track detailed information, and operate lift truck or hand truck to move product and material shipments.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
1. *Prepares and processes outbound orders physically and systematically for shipment.
2. *Schedules logistics activities with drivers and external freight transporters.
3. *Enters and maintains records on the weight, destination, charges, and shipping documentation for all outbound orders.
4. *Maintains dock scheduling for both inbound and outbound loads.
5. *Operates lift truck or uses hand truck to move shipments from staging to shipping areas.
6. *Communicates confirmation of freight deliveries to internal customers.
7. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• One year of work experience, preferably in shipping and receiving;
• Knowledge and training in Food Safety (HACCP) and Food Protection programs, National Organic Program (NOP), California Health and Safety Code, Division 104, Part 5 - Sherman Food, Drug and Cosmetic Law: 2008, and FDA's Quality System Regulations, preferred;
• Familiarity with warehousing procedures and processes preferred;
• Experience operating a lift truck and hand truck to move materials preferred;
• Ability to learn specialized software related to departmental operations including shipping/tracking;
• Ability to communicate effectively and respond to questions and requests from team, customers and others;
• Effective written communication skills using appropriate business English;
• Human relations skills to maintain effective working relationships with team;
• Effective customer service skills;
• Intermediate computer literacy including knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software;
• Basic mathematical ability including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division;
• Demonstrated customer service, problem solving and common sense skills.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or GED
CERTIFICATES OR LICENSES REQUIRED:
The following licenses or certificates may be required depending on local, state and/or contract requirements:
Valid Driver's License
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance:
• Maneuvering in and around the warehouse
• Bending and stooping
• Lifting and moving boxes weighing up to 35 pounds
• Pulling or pushing up to 75 pounds
• May require using a pallet jack
• Climbing on and off material handling equipment
• Viewing Computer screen
• Utilizing keyboard
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a commissary, warehouse, or distribution environment with forklifts, material handling and production equipment. May be exposed to noise from equipment and depending on external weather conditions exposure to heat, cold, wind, and rain.
