Job description

Traffic Engineer

MDS is seeking a traffic engineer to play an essential role in the successful completion of transportation projects while ensuring they are safe, efficient, and cost-effective. The successful candidate will have the skills and experience necessary to work on traffic operations and modeling, safety analysis, multi-modal planning/implementation, signing and striping plans, signal and lighting design, temporary traffic control plans, and many other tasks.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Traffic analysis and modeling
  • Traffic plan design
  • Communication and collaboration
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and standards

Preferred skills, experience, and qualifications:

  • Strong technical, communication, and leadership skills
  • Ability to problem solve
  • A work hard, play hard, innovative attitude
  • A willingness to collaborate in a team environment
  • A desire to grow with the company
  • Experience in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
  • Proficiency in traffic analysis and design software
  • Proficient in Microsoft software (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • Progressive traffic engineering related experience
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering (or related field) with Professional Engineer licensure (PE) in Minnesota
  • Certification as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE)
  • Knowledge of CADD software, preferably MicroStation
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
  • Experience supervising staff
