Job description

What we are looking for:

The Tooling Engineer designs, develops, and maintains specialized tools, dies, molds, and fixtures to optimize manufacturing production efficiency and quality. This role will create CAD models, troubleshoot tool failures, and manage vendor relationships and machinist relationship to ensure robust, on-time, and cost โ€“ effective tooling solutions. Additionally, this role takes ownership of projects from start to completion, for new tooling as well as existing tools.

1st Shift: Monday-Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm

What you will do:

  • Plans, designs, and executes custom tooling projects using AutoDesk Fusion 360 and CNC equipment with the goal of executing custom bag designs in a timely manner
  • Leads tooling projects to improve manufacturing by maintaining, improving, and developing novel approaches to tooling design.
  • Translates internal design input requirements into completed tools and fixtures.
  • Partners with manufacturing to maintain current tooling designs and supports inhouse machinist to cut any standard tooling that needs to be replaced due to damage or arcing.
  • Manages the database of all current tooling sets to ensure they are up to date including any new designs.
  • Responsible for custom fixture design and procurement.
  • Operates and programs CNC equipment independently as needed.
  • Supports multiple design projects to meet customer timelines.
  • Works closely with Charter Medicalโ€™s machinist to achieve set tooling goals per project.
  • Communicates with internal customers to ensure alignment around deliverables.
  • Provides input to the department budgeting process and monitors and controls expenses through the year to meet budget requirements.
  • Assists with validations for new equipment, new products, and process improvements.

Who you are:

  • Minimum Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience.
  • 3-5 years of tool design experience.
  • Experience with medical or bio pharmaceutical industry preferred.
  • Proficient computer skills using MS office, Solid works, Minitab, AutoDesk Fusion 360.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills.

    • Experience with ISO 13485 and FDA guidelines preferred
    • Six-sigma training a plus.
    • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and management. Business communication is conducted in English.
    • Ability to comprehend and follow SOPโ€™s, WIโ€™s, policies, and procedures such a safety, quality, and HR that are written in English.
    • Ability to use measurement devices and have a good understanding of Geometric, Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
    • Ability to properly complete paperwork as required according to work instructions, standards, or other specifications.
    • Willingness to accept change, learn, and work with new processes.
    • Familiarity with an ERP system and Quality Management System (eQMS) preferred.
    • Must be able to work extended hours when required.
