About Sandvik
Sandvik is a global engineering leader with over 41,000 employees worldwide. We're proud to be ranked among Forbes' Top 100 Global Employers. At our Rotary Drilling Division headquarters in Alachua, Florida, we design and build world-class surface mining drill rigs used across the globe. Our culture is driven by innovation, collaboration, and a passion for solving real-world challenges - all in a fun, inclusive, and rewarding work environment.
The Systems Integration and Testing Manager leads a multidisciplinary engineering team to ensure that complex mining equipment systems (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and software) are seamlessly integrated and thoroughly tested. This role combines system integration and system testing responsibilities, driving end-to-end product validation. The Manager owns the integration of subsystems on rotary drill rigs and oversees the development and execution of comprehensive test plans to guarantee product performance, safety, and reliability. This position is primarily office-based in Alachua, FL, with domestic and international travel as needed to support field testing and deployment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Systems Integration Leadership: Coordinate the integration of mechanical, electrical, and software subsystems for new and existing rotary drill products. Ensure all subsystems (PLC-based controls, hydraulics, structural components, etc.) work together seamlessly, identifying and resolving interface issues early in the development cycle.

  • Testing Strategy and Oversight: Develop and implement system-level test strategies for product validation. Oversee the creation of test plans, test cases, and procedures to verify that integrated systems meet design specifications and safety standards. Manage both lab-based testing and field trials (e.g. prototype evaluations at mine sites) to validate performance under real-world conditions.

  • Team Management: Lead a team of engineers. Provide mentorship, set priorities, and foster a collaborative culture focused on quality and continuous improvement. Drive team efforts to meet project milestones and product release deadlines.

  • Issue Resolution: Oversee troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for any system-level issues that arise during integration or testing. Guide the team in diagnosing complex problems that spanmultiple domains (mechanical, electrical, software) and drive timely resolutions and design improvements.

  • Quality and Compliance: Uphold Sandvik's safety and quality standards. Demonstrate respect and commitment to the IMS system (ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018) taking accountability for its effectiveness and continued improvements. Ensure all testing follows Zero Harm safety practices and that any incidents or hazards during testing are addressed. Verify that products meet relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements through proper test documentation and analysis.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product design engineers, software developers, and project managers in the Product Development & Management department. Ensure integration and testing considerations are built into the product development process (e.g. participate in design reviews and sprint planning to represent integration/test needs).

  • Process Improvement: Stay abreast of the latest tools and methodologies for system integration and testing. Introduce best practices such as test automation, simulation, and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing where appropriate to improve test coverage and efficiency. Champion a culture of continuous improvement in integration processes, testing methods, and team competencies.

Education, Licenses & Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or related field) required.

  • Master's degree is a plus.

Required Experience, Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Work Authorization: Ability to work in the U.S. on an indefinite basis without sponsorship
  • Functional Experience: 8+ years of experience in product development, system integration, and testing of complex electro-mechanical systems (e.g., heavy machinery, off-road equipment, automotive, or similar domains). Includes at least 3+ years in a leadership role managing engineers or technical projects.

  • Industry Experience (Preferred): Experience in the mining equipment sector or heavy mobile machinery is highly valued, with an understanding of the environmental and operational conditions of mining or construction sites.

  • Domain Knowledge: Solid understanding of integrating hardware and software systems. Experience with industrial control systems and communication protocols (e.g., PLCs, CAN bus) and familiarity with hydraulics and electrical systems in heavy equipment.

  • Technical Expertise: Proven ability to oversee multi-disciplinary system integration and develop effective test strategies for complex machinery. Comfortable reading engineering drawings, electrical schematics, and software logic to understand system operation.

  • Problem Solving: Excellent troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills. Able to systematically diagnose issues that span mechanical, electrical, and software domains and drive them to resolution.

  • Project & Delivery Focus: Strong project management abilities - adept at planning, organizing, and delivering integration and testing activities on time. Attentive to detail while keeping overall project goals in focus.

  • Leadership & Communication: Effective leader with experience building and motivating engineering teams. Strong communicator who can coordinate cross-functional efforts and clearly convey technical information and project status to diverse stakeholders.
