Job description

Position Summaryย 
AMPERA is seeking a Director of Testing & Qualification to establish and lead the companyโ€™s testing, validation, and qualification organization.ย 
The Director of Testing & Qualification will be responsible for building the processes, facilities, personnel, and operational capabilities required to verify, validate, and qualify AMPERAโ€™s technologies from concept development through commercial deployment.ย 
In the near term, the organization will support testing and characterization of AMPERAโ€™s acquired supercritical COโ‚‚ (sCOโ‚‚) power conversion system, validation of design modifications, qualification of advanced TPMS heat exchanger technology, and development of product performance data supporting commercialization.ย 
Over the longer term, the organization will expand to support testing and qualification of reactor technologies, materials, shielding systems, reflector materials, thermal hydraulic systems, fuel systems, and integrated nuclear systems.ย 
The Director will establish AMPERAโ€™s test engineering, test operations, qualification, instrumentation, data management, and test facility capabilities while ensuring testing activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and with the rigor required to support future licensing and commercialization efforts.ย 
This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer.ย 
Position Purposeย 
The Director of Testing & Qualification is responsible for ensuring that AMPERA generates the technical evidence required to validate product performance, retire technical risk, support engineering decisions, demonstrate regulatory compliance, and enable commercial deployment.ย 
The role serves as the bridge between engineering development and operational deployment by providing independent verification of product performance and readiness.ย 
Key Responsibilities
Testing Organization Developmentย 
  • Build and lead AMPERAโ€™s Testing & Qualification organization.ย 
  • Establish organizational structure, staffing plans, and capability roadmaps.ย 
  • Recruit and develop test engineers, test operators, instrumentation specialists, and qualification personnel.ย 
  • Develop testing procedures, standards, governance processes, and operational controls.ย 
  • Create a culture of disciplined test execution and objective data collection.ย 
Test Strategy and Planningย 
  • Develop company-wide testing and qualification strategies.ย 
  • Establish test planning processes supporting product development and risk reduction.ย 
  • Develop verification and validation frameworks.ย 
  • Ensure test programs align with engineering, licensing, quality, and commercialization objectives.ย 
  • Define qualification pathways for future products and technologies.ย 
sCOโ‚‚ Power System Testingย 
  • Lead planning and execution of the Power Now Nuclear Later test program.ย 
  • Manage low-power commissioning and characterization testing.ย 
  • Manage full-power performance testing.ย 
  • Coordinate testing of system modifications and design improvements.ย 
  • Ensure collection of performance, reliability, operability, and maintainability data.ย 
  • Develop test reports and qualification documentation.ย 
TPMS Heat Exchanger Qualificationย 
  • Lead qualification testing of advanced TPMS heat exchanger technology.ย 
  • Develop performance validation, durability, thermal cycling, and reliability test programs.ย 
  • Coordinate testing activities with engineering and manufacturing partners.ย 
  • Generate qualification evidence supporting commercialization and future deployment.ย 
Test Facility Developmentย 
  • Develop AMPERAโ€™s testing infrastructure and facility roadmap.ย 
  • Support design and operation of future test facilities.ย 
  • Establish facility operating procedures and safety programs.ย

  • Plan future reactor and materials testing infrastructure.ย 
Qualification and Certification Supportย 
  • Develop qualification methodologies and acceptance criteria.ย

  • Support certification, regulatory, customer, and licensing activities.ย 
  • Ensure testing programs generate defensible technical evidence.ย 
Future Reactor Testing Programsย

Data Management and Analysisย 
  • Establish test data management systems and processes.ย 
  • Ensure data integrity, traceability, and accessibility.ย 
  • Develop reporting standards and performance metrics.ย 
  • Support engineering organizations with analysis and interpretation of test results.ย 
Cross-Functional Leadershipย 
  • Partner with Engineering to define test objectives and success criteria.ย 
  • Partner with Program Management to align testing with program milestones.ย 
  • Partner with Quality Assurance to ensure test program rigor and documentation.ย 
  • Support Commercial and Executive teams with performance demonstrations and technical communications.ย 

Initial Priorities
During the first 24 months, the Director of Testing & Qualification will be expected to:ย 
  • Establish AMPERAโ€™s testing and qualification organization.ย 
  • Develop the companyโ€™s test governance framework.ย 
  • Successfully execute the sCOโ‚‚ power conversion system test program.ย 
  • Complete low-power and full-power system characterization.ย 
  • Support validation of engineering modifications.ย 
  • Develop and execute TPMS heat exchanger qualification testing.ย 
  • Establish test data management and reporting systems.ย 
  • Develop long-term reactor testing and qualification roadmaps.ย 

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Engineering, Physics, or related technical discipline.ย 
  • 12+ years of experience in testing, qualification, validation, product development, operations, or related technical leadership roles.ย 
  • Experience planning and executing complex hardware test programs.ย 
  • Experience developing test plans, procedures, instrumentation, and qualification methodologies.ย 
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary technical teams.ย 
  • Strong understanding of engineering development and verification processes.ย 
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.ย 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field.ย 
  • Experience in power generation, turbomachinery, aerospace, defense, advanced manufacturing, nuclear energy, or related industries.ย 
  • Experience with thermal systems, energy systems, heat exchangers, turbomachinery, or reactor technologies.ย 
  • Experience commissioning and operating test facilities.ย 
  • Experience with qualification, certification, or regulatory testing programs.ย 
  • Experience establishing testing organizations or facilities.ย 
  • Familiarity with data acquisition, instrumentation, controls, and test automation systems.ย

**Compensation for this position will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
