Job Summary

Reporting to the VP of Operations Support, the Director of Commercial Development will lead the development and execution of a best-in-class commercial strategy for the U.S. Aggregates business. This role is responsible for the standardization and implementation of a CRM platform, integration of a Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process, and delivery of market intelligence and commercial analytics to drive pricing, product mix, forecasting, and market development decisions. This leader will serve as a strategic partner to regional and functional teams to support profitable growth, customer experience, and execution discipline.

Job Responsibilities
  • Work to instill Zero4Life as the fundamental driver to an injury free workplace.
  • Requires some work after normal business hours and on weekends, as well as ability to respond to emergency situations.

Strategic Commercial Integration

  • Lead the nationwide deployment and governance of a CRM system, standardizing opportunity management, pipeline visibility, customer segmentation, and account strategy across all commercial teams.
  • Drive the development and rollout of a cross-functional S&OP process, partnering with operations, logistics, finance, and sales to align demand forecasts with production and supply chain capabilities.
  • Align commercial plans and pricing strategies with long-range planning and capital investment priorities.

Market Intelligence & Business Analytics

  • Build a robust, scalable process for market research and competitive intelligence, including supply/demand modeling, consumption metrics, customer mapping, and logistics infrastructure (truck, rail, barge, port).
  • Establish and maintain a centralized competitor and customer database to track market share, pricing trends, and strategic moves.
  • Develop dashboards and tools to support data-driven pricing, forecasting, and mix optimization decisions at regional and national levels.

Commercial Growth & Market Development

  • Partner with regional VP/GMs and sales managers to identify, validate, and support new market opportunities, including greenfield expansion, new product development, or adjacent market entry.
  • Create and maintain strategic sales and marketing plans for Aggregates that incorporate regional goals, budget targets, and growth initiatives.
  • Analyze and support customer portfolio development through segmentation strategies, sales enablement tools, and key account planning.

Sales Support & Enablement

  • Assist with monthly forecast reviews, budget planning, and annual commercial stretch targets through a disciplined and repeatable planning process.
  • Track DOT/Public bid activity, win/loss performance, and market-specific commercial metrics.
  • Support the development and facilitation of commercial training programs aligned with tools, systems, and strategic priorities.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Economics, or related field; MBA preferred
  • 7+ years of experience in commercial, strategy, or business development roles; experience in construction materials, mining, or logistics industries preferred
  • Proven experience leading CRM system implementations (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics) and embedding structured sales processes
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong background in S&OP, forecasting, or demand planning within industrial, construction, or B2B settings
  • Advanced analytical skills with experience using Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools
  • Understanding of financial modeling, margin management, and pricing strategy
  • Exceptional cross-functional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence without authority
  • Strong analytical skills, well organized, and market/business savvy
  • Experience in dealing with regulatory agencies such as OSHA, MSHA, and/or DOT. MSHA experience preferred.ย 
  • Comfortable in a training environment speaking in front of groups from various levels of the organization with ability to communicate with employees at all levels
