Job description

Pay rate: $34.00/hr. - 35.00/hr. plus overtime

Power Solutions International (PSI) is a leading manufacturer of emissions-certified powertrains specializing in customized and fully integrated turnkey solutions for the leading global equipment manufacturers in the industrial, transportation, and energy markets manufacturers. Our facilities are housed in one million square feet of engineering, assembly, operations, and distribution space across seven facilities. We are positioned to meet the high production volumes of our customers with added capacity for growth.

Summary:

Reporting to the Test Engineering Manager the Engineering Technician III will support the Base Engine, Test, and Engineering teams in the development and execution of test programs. Engineering Technician III will be responsible for installing and operating test articles, operating test equipment and facilitating data collection associated with engine development, engine validation, and component testing. This includes instrumenting, installing, operating and testing engines in a laboratory environment, and preparing the data for the engineering teams. This role will perform base engine teardown and assembly and use precision tools to measure engine components, provide input into the development of test plans, analyze and perform in-depth data quality review, and reduce the data using established tools in developing charts and graphs to effectively communicate results to internal customers.

Essential Responsibilities:

· Develop new standardized testing methods and establish best practices that include developing guidelines to document department test procedures.

· Streamline the test set up and overall workflow through the lab by the standardization of test fixture

· Setup and instrumentation of the test article.

· Maintain testing equipment and perform schedule maintenance.

· Fabrication of test fixtures, mounting and adapting hardware, and fluid systems.

· Installation of test articles (engines and components) onto test stands.

· Installation, maintenance, and calibration of testing equipment.

· Installation and maintenance of facility equipment.

· Interface with PCs and data acquisition to tailor data acquisition system to the specific test.

· Advanced diagnosis and troubleshooting of engine, electrical, and test cell instrumentation.

· Perform engine maintenance, engine teardown, inspection and engine measurements.

· Perform research into new technologies to improve the department’s capability and overall efficiency.

· Submit timely and concise test reports including test set up, testing methods and data summary.

· Provide guidance in product development activities, such as pretest meetings, after action reviews, design reviews, failure modes & effects analysis, risk assessments, etc.

· Work with cross-functional teams to investigate product/manufacturing process issues and assist in developing robust solutions.

· Continual improvement of established lab test procedures.

· Mentor junior technicians on established departmental engine tear down and test best practices.

· All other duties assigned by management.

Education and/or Experience:

· Two-year technical degree in automotive technology or a related field. Applicants without a technical degree may be considered if exhibiting extensive and specific relevant work experience. ASE or other similar certifications preferred.

· Work Experience: 5 plus years of directly relevant work experience in engine development and/or automotive testing.

Qualifications:

· Sound understanding of internal combustion theory and mechanics.

· Able to perform complete engine teardown and assembly and a high degree of experience in the use of precision measurement tools.

· In-depth understanding and experience with electronic control systems and DC electrical systems, capable of reading and interpreting electrical schematics and diagrams.

· Knowledge of and experience with engine dynamometer testing equipment systems and base understanding of engine calibration methods.

· Professional representation with focus on customer service.

· Capable of metal fabrication including highly proficient use of machine tools such as mills and lathes.

· Skilled at mig, tig, and acetylene welding of steel and stainless steel.

· Motivated, self-sufficient, technically diverse, and easily adaptable, able to operate in a challenging, fast-paced, team environment with the ability to adapt to changing priorities.

· Excellent interpersonal and teambuilding skills and able to build positive relationships with internal customers throughout PSI.

· Solid mechanical and electrical aptitude.

· Effective verbal and written communication.

· Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is required.

· Experience with testing automation software and interfacing with data acquisition systems is preferred.

· The candidate must have strong organizational, coordination, planning, analytical and problem-solving skills.

· The candidate must demonstrate the ability to take ownership of the testing process, the test lab and to continually focus on process improvement and increased efficiency.
