Normal Work Schedule (Other):: This position can work up to a maximum of 29.5 hours per week. Generally, Monday through Friday, with possibly some weekend shifts.

Job Responsibilities
The South Carolina State Museum is looking for a Volunteer Program Assistant to provide support with the scheduling, recordkeeping, onboarding, introductory training, recognition, and information distribution to the museum's volunteer corps. This position requires attention to detail, dedication to excellent guest service, and the ability to work collaboratively with both volunteers and staff. The Volunteer Program Assistant will report to the Volunteer Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Accurately record volunteer hours.
- Schedule a growing corps of 60+ volunteers for 6 days of operation, public programs, educational programs, Foundation programs, membership programs and other audience engagement programs.
- Monitor volunteer commitment by tracking number of hours donated.
- Assist with the planning of both the annual Volunteer Appreciation Event and the annual Staff & Volunteer Holiday Party.
- Generate reports on volunteers, such as hours worked, scheduling, and other annual data needed by Museum and State Administration.
- Assist with planning and execution of volunteer brown bag lunches.
- Become responsible for volunteer onboarding, including: review applications, conduct volunteer interest interviews, coordinating background checks and teamwear with HR department, host volunteer orientation and guest services training.
- Communicate with volunteers through weekly email updates, special announcements, monthly newsletter, as well as phone calls and reminders about upcoming shifts.
- Help grow the volunteer corps by participating in recruitment events.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Ability to problem solve and handle multiple priorities in a professional and personal manner.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with museum staff.
- High school diploma.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move 25 lbs
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking
Preferred Qualifications
- Volunteer management software experience or other database software experience.
- Previous volunteer coordinating experience.
- Experience working with the general public is a plus.

This is an on-site job at the South Carolina State Museum in Columbia, SC. There is no virtual / telecommuting option.
