Required Education:
A Bachelor's Degree with course work or training in theater, theater technology, and the various arts, crafts, trades and processes employed in the position is required.
OR
Two (2) years post-secondary education with four (4) years of related experience.
Required Experience:
Three (3) years of technical theatre experience is required. This experience should include building scenery and properties and operating lighting and sound systems.

Position Purpose:
The Technical/Scene Shop Coordinator is responsible for the lighting and sound systems for the community play production, music and dance concerts, stage presentations and all other events held in the performing arts building; responsible for the safe operation of all stage equipment; does related work as required.
Essential Functions:
  • Works with Scenic/Lighting Designer to establish budgets for each event.
  • Monitors and controls expenditures.
  • Works with designer in recruiting and guiding students and volunteers working on scenery lighting and sound throughout the production process.
  • Draws working plans from the designer's plans and sketches.
  • Constructs, assembles, rigs, shifts, maintains and repairs scenery.
  • Implements lighting and sound designs.
  • Rents, purchases, obtains quotes, prepares purchase orders and arranges for shipping, pick up and delivery of goods and products to be used.
  • Establishes, in consultation with the designer and director, schedules for activities and performs work to meet deadlines.
  • Participates in production meetings.
  • Maintains the safe, orderly and clean condition of the shop and other work areas on a daily basis.
  • Maintains, safeguards and stores tools and equipment.
  • Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervision Statement:
Reports to and works under the general supervision of the Arts Division Dean. Work is performed independently according to professional practices in cooperation and collaboration with the production team of any given event.
Physical Demands/Working Environment:
Maintains the safe, orderly and clean condition of the shop and other work areas on a daily basis. Maintains, safeguards and stores tools and equipment. Work may require transporting materials up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Work safely.

  • Operation of theatrical lighting equipment including.
  • Lighting console and lighting equipment, sound console and sound equipment, show control computers, projection equipment, communication systems, integrated architectural systems.

  • Provide support to employees working to meet accreditation standards through evaluation and assessment of student outcomes.
