Job description

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Carpenter to join our healthcare construction team in Rapid City, SD. This position performs high-quality carpentry work in hospitals, clinics, surgical centers, and other medical facilities. The ideal candidate is experienced in commercial construction, works well independently, and understands the importance of safety, professionalism, infection control, and minimizing disruption in occupied healthcare environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, plans, specifications, and shop drawings

  • Install doors, frames, hardware, casework, trim, millwork, wall protection systems, FRP, RVP, and specialty healthcare finishes

  • Construct and install temporary containment walls and dust barriers for infection control

  • Perform accurate layout, measurement, and installation of materials

  • Install solid surface countertops, windowsills, and owner-furnished items

  • Maintain clean and organized work areas in active patient care environments

  • Ensure all work meets quality standards, project schedules, and healthcare facility requirements

  • Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and healthcare protocols

  • Work independently or assist in leading small crews on assigned tasks

Qualifications

  • Healthcare construction experience preferred

  • Strong understanding of construction drawings and specifications

  • Proficient with hand and power tools

  • Ability to operate equipment such as forklifts, scissor lifts, and manlifts

  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and craftsmanship

  • Ability to identify and resolve construction issues proactively

  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines

  • Professional demeanor when working around patients, staff, and healthcare providers

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and lift throughout the workday
  • Frequently lift and carry materials weighing up to 50–100 pounds, with or without assistance
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and jobsite conditions
