Job Overview - Nonprofit Controller (Temp to Perm)
Compensation: $60 - $70/hour (Dependent on Experience)
Location: New York, NY
Schedule: Monday to Friday (In-Office)
Atlantic Group is hiring a Nonprofit Controller in New York, NY for our client, supporting full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, and audit readiness. In this temp-to-perm role, you will manage the general ledger, lead month-end close, and ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards including fund accounting. You will utilize QuickBooks Online and Excel to support financial operations, audits, and reporting across multiple funds.
Responsibilities as the Nonprofit Controller:
  • Full-Cycle Accounting: Oversee all accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and reconciliations.
  • Month-End Close: Lead the monthly close process and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare financial statements and support nonprofit reporting and disclosure requirements.
  • Audit & Compliance: Manage audit preparation, Form 990, and ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and support the accounting team while driving process improvements and system efficiency.
Qualifications for the Nonprofit Controller:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required (CPA strongly preferred).
  • Experience: 8+ years of nonprofit accounting experience with full ownership of accounting operations is required.
  • Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting including restricted and unrestricted funds, grant reporting, and audit requirements is required.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel is required.
  • Skills & Attributes: Demonstrates strong leadership, attention to detail, hands-on work style, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
