Human Resources Administrator

Location: Washington, DC close to Farragut North/West (Hybrid/Onsite)

This position with start out part-time (3 days in the office (Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday) on a temporary basis. If the position is a good fit, it will be 5 days (Monday/Friday from home; Tuesday, Wednesday/Thursday in DC office)

Temporary Salary Range: $35-$40/h

Perm Salary Range: $75-$95k

A leading higher education leadership association is seeking a detail-oriented and people-focused Human Resources Administrator to join their team. This is a newly created role designed to strengthen HR operations and serve as a key liaison between employees and an external HR partner. This organization is committed to fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and supportive workplace where employees can thrive. If you’re an experienced HR professional who enjoys balancing strategic initiatives with hands-on execution, this role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field (HR certification a plus)
  • 5+ years of progressive HR generalist experience
  • Strong knowledge of HR operations including benefits, payroll, and employee relations
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and HRIS platforms (ADP or similar)
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • High level of discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive information
  • Ability to prioritize, problem-solve, and manage multiple responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

HR Partnership & Operations (40%)

  • Act as the primary liaison with an external HR partner, supporting recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and offboarding
  • Partner with hiring managers to develop and refine job descriptions
  • Coordinate full-cycle recruiting efforts, including candidate screening, interviews, and background checks
  • Manage onboarding processes, ensuring a seamless new hire experience
  • Oversee performance reviews, merit cycles, and employee relations processes
  • Administer leave-of-absence programs and maintain accurate tracking

Benefits Administration (25%)

  • Serve as the internal expert on employee benefits (medical, dental, vision, retirement, and more)
  • Manage open enrollment and new hire benefits orientation
  • Ensure compliance with plan documents and regulations
  • Audit and maintain accurate benefits data and resolve employee inquiries

Payroll & Accounting Support (20%)

  • Process semi-monthly payroll and manage related HRIS functions
  • Track and reconcile leave balances and compensation adjustments
  • Support audits, tax registrations, and compliance reporting
  • Assist with retirement plan administration and vendor coordination
  • Reconcile invoices and HR-related expenses

Administrative (15%)

  • Maintain accurate, compliant employee records and HR documentation
  • Generate reports and provide data insights to support decision-making
  • Continuously improve HR processes and systems

Employee Experience & Leadership Support

  • Promote a positive and engaging workplace culture
  • Support leadership with employee relations and organizational initiatives
  • Plan and execute staff engagement activities, trainings, and development programs
