Job description

SMS is looking for a Telephone Systems ISP Technician on the Kirtland AFB C4 Contract in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Inside Plant Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance and performance of telephone equipment and ancillary system. The job requires sitting for extended periods, occasional heavy lifting, and travel to remote sites and customer sites around the installation, as well as an IAT I certification (CompTIA A+ or Net+) and a valid driver's license with a good driving record.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the operation, maintenance and performance of telephone equipment and ancillary systems, including but not limited to Telephone Helpdesk, Cisco Call Manager, Nortel MSL-100 telephone switch, Callegra Voice Mail System, VESTA E911, Telecommunications Management System (TMS), and other related services.
  • Handles phone calls for telephone support and repair
  • Completes all work orders for moves, adds, and changes of telephone services.
  • Maintains detailed maintenance records and installation activities for equipment throughout Kirtland AFB.
  • Coordinates with the customer on specific requirements, and where necessary and appropriate coordinates with other contractors.

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge in telecommunications systems and practices to include VoIP concepts.
  • Strong customer service skills, communication skills and task management skills
  • Must have the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, meet with the customer tactfully and courteously, and establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with customers and coworkers.
  • Understanding of proper safety practices, procedures, and regulations applicable to working in a telephone switch environment
  • Experience with the tools and test equipment required for the installation and maintenance of telephone and data network services.
  • Strong computer skills to include Microsoft Windows and Office products.
  • Applicant must possess refined critical thinking skills, should be a self-starter, and possess the ability to direct the activities of other team members.
  • Applicant must be diplomatic, capable of shifting focus as required, adaptive to a dynamic environment, dependable and reliable.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements of the position such as standing, bending, and lifting for duration of the duty day
  • Valid New Mexico Driver’s License Required
  • This position may require occasional after-hours call-ins for emergency response. Employees in this role must provide a personal cell phone number for contact purposes.
  • CompTIA A+ or Network+ certification required.
  • Requires an active DOD SECRET security clearance.

  • Telephone Journeyman License JS7 – New Mexico Preferred
  • BICSI Installer 1 or 2 preferred
