Summary:

The Controls Project Manager is a technical leader who plays a critical role in the development of HVAC equipment control solutions. This role acts primarily as an individual contributor with technical leadership responsibilities, owning projects across their development lifecycle.

The position supports strategic initiatives through developmental support, working with senior management for the creation of innovative control solutions that improve the quality, reliability, and competitiveness of AAON equipment. The ideal candidate has experience in HVAC controls product development stages, and the ability to communicate effectively with internal teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Leadership

  • Implement project plans to ensure successful execution of engineering initiatives.

  • Responsible for managing the product development timeline, providing routine status updates to management, resolving minor inconsistencies, and maintaining clear communication to ensure expectations are met throughout the product development lifecycle.

  • Collaborate with product management and engineering to keep projects aligned with design intent, timelines, and business objectives.

Technical Leadership

  • Support documentation, technical support, and training teams in preparations for the release of new products and enhancements.

  • Work with engineering teams in the development of new products and product enhancements applied to modern embedded computer control platforms.

  • Review control sequence implementation and assure delivery of required functionality to fulfill business needs.

  • Project Controls

  • Track ongoing projects to ensure adherence to budgets and schedules.

  • Partner with management to review shortfalls and define mechanisms to get projects back on track.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in an applicable engineering discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience in controls or HVAC systems. Plus, 3-5 years in HVAC controls, product development, or technical project management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience or specific training in Project Management with a focus on product development cycles. This position does not directly manage people.

  • Utilize project management tools such as Monday.com and DevOps in coordinating design reviews, monitoring phase gates for developing risks and reviewing product release readiness .

  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.

  • High level of attention to detail and commitment to quality.

  • The following would be beneficial:

    • A basic understanding of the principles of HVAC system operation, including airflow, refrigeration, speeds, pressures, temperatures, and related equipment functions will be a benefit to the role.

    • Ability to read and interpret equipment drawings and wiring diagrams.

    • Familiarity with regulatory and industry standards such as UL, ETL, Modbus, ISO, and similar frameworks.

    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate complex data and recommend effective solutions.

  • Ability to analyze complex technical information and apply judgment to resolve plan issues.

Work Enviroment:

  • Ability to work effectively in an office setting as well as on a manufacturing floor.

  • Ability to lift up to 15 lbs.

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.

  • Visual acuity sufficient to read technical drawings and documentation.

  • Ability to travel as required.
