Job description

Technical Business Analyst
Position Type: Full Time, Exempt - Employee.
Salary: $95,000 - $121,000 annually, (DOE).
Location: We are only seeking candidates that can work on-site at our Service Center located in San Juan Capistrano, CA. This position offers a hybrid work option after a 90-day probationary period (not fully remote).
About the Company:
Ensign Services, Inc. ("ESI") is a subsidiary of The Ensign Group, Inc. whose affiliated entities are considered national leaders in the fast-growing post-acute care industry. ESI provides service and support to over 378 facilities in the long-term care continuum that employ over 55,000 employees.
ESI is known as the Service Center and provides the facilities and leaders it serves with back-office support in areas such as accounting, construction, compliance, human resources, information technology, learning and development, legal and risk management and recruiting. This structure allows the onsite leaders and caregivers to focus on day-to-day care and operational issues in their individual operations. What sets ESI apart from other companies is the quality of our most valuable resource - our people.
We take our core values of Celebration, Accountability, Passion for Learning, Love One Another, Intelligent Risk Taking, Customer Second, and Ownership ("CAPLICO") seriously. We want an individual in this role who will demonstrate these values through actions and words.
About the Opportunity:
We are forming a new team and seeking our initial members to help shape its direction and success. This is not a traditional, narrowly focused business analyst role. It requires a versatile professional who can operate comfortably across business and technical domains, including analysis, solution design, process improvement, testing, and implementation support.
Automation is a wide-ranging discipline focused on improving business operations through technology in any form - software development, system integration, workflow platforms, AI, data solutions, and process redesign. In this role, you will help identify opportunities where technology can remove friction, increase visibility, reduce risk, and enable scale.
As part of this team, the Technical Business Analyst willtranslate complex business needs into actionable technical requirements and partner closely with developers and stakeholders to deliver high-impact solutions. You must be equally comfortable discussing operational challenges with business leaders and engaging in detailed conversations with engineers and architects. Success in this role requires intellectual curiosity, strong problem-solving skills, and a natural tendency to dig into processes, data, and systems to understand not just how they work, but why. You should be confident in asking the right questions, challenging assumptions, and driving clarity in ambiguous situations while maintaining a collaborative, solutions-oriented approach.
Job Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Identify operational pain points, analyze root causes, and help define practical, scalable solutions that align business objectives with technical capabilities.
  • Serve as the connective tissue between business stakeholders and technical teams by converting complex needs into clear user stories, process flows, and functional requirements.
  • Work closely with developers, architects, QA, and business leaders to ensure shared understanding, reduce ambiguity, and accelerate delivery.
  • Demonstrate curiosity by digging into systems, data, workflows, and edge cases to uncover risks, dependencies, and improvement opportunities.
  • Evaluate current-state processes and help design future-state workflows that emphasize automation, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Drive requirements from discovery through delivery, ensuring clarity, traceability, and alignment with measurable business outcomes.
  • Partner with QA and stakeholders to define acceptance criteria, support testing, and confirm that delivered solutions meet operational needs.
  • Prepare the business for new solutions through clear documentation, communication, and partnership during rollout.
  • Make pragmatic recommendations to address immediate challenges while contributing to longer-term strategic enhancements.
  • Use AI tools to accelerate analysis, summarize complex information, identify patterns, and improve documentation - leveraging AI as an amplifier for critical thinking rather than a substitute for it.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, information systems, finance, healthcare administration, or a related field, or the ability to demonstrate equivalent analytical and technical expertise.
  • Minimum of 5+ years in business analysis, technical analysis, product delivery, or a similar role within a technology-driven environment.
  • Proven success working across both business and technical teams to deliver measurable outcomes.
  • You naturally break down complex challenges, ask thoughtful questions, and persist until the root cause is understood.
  • You focus on solutions rather than symptoms.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences - able to "talk the talk" with engineers while remaining accessible to business partners.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and a strong desire to learn how systems, processes, and data truly work.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills with the ability to bring structure to loosely defined problems and operate effectively in ambiguous environments.
  • Skilled at writing clear requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and process documentation.
  • Comfortable facilitating discussions, asking challenging questions, and driving alignment across stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with Agile and Scrum practices, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives. You view collaboration and iteration as accelerators of value delivery.
  • Ability to build credibility quickly, partner effectively across organizational levels, and advocate for solutions that balance business value with technical feasibility.
  • Experience in finance or healthcare environments is a plus; however, strong analytical ability, adaptability, curiosity, and problem-solving capability are more important than specific domain experience.

Additional Information:
  • Pre-employment criminal background screening required.

We are committed to providing a competitive benefits and compensation package which includes medical/dental/vision coverage, company-provided life insurance, 401(k) with company match, and sick/vacation plans.
