Job Summary and Qualifications

Performs direct patient care within the scope of the nurse practice act, as it applies to the outcomes and processes of the Cardiac Valve Program.  Plans, coordinates and implements the care of the valve patient in the outpatient setting.  Acts as a liaison with the physicians, patient/families and ancillary departments.  Assess financial, medical and social resources of current and potential valve program patients in conjunction with the Valve team.  Coordinates the flow of information among the medical, nursing, financial and any research staff as appropriate.  Develops, maintains and implements a teaching plan with the patient and family, to include lab values, medication overview and diagnosis related information. 

What qualifications you will need:

LEVEL OF FORMAL EDUCATION REQUIRED:  

  • Graduate of an approved school for registered nurses and current license to practice nursing in the state of Texas.   

LICENSED/CERTIFICATIONS


  • Registered Nurse license by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners. If compact license held, RN is required to obtain a Texas RN license within 90 days of their hire date. 


  • BLS required  


  • ACLS preferred 


EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 

  •  Minimal 2 years experience as a RN with 1-2 years experience working with cardiac patients, preferably on a telemetry unit or coronary care unit.  Has been directly involved in education to and care of the patient with cardiovascular disease.
