Job description


Job Summary: The Coordinator-RN Electrophysiology (EP) Program is a highly experienced nurse specializing in cardiovascular diseases and related aspects of care for patients requiring specialized treatment and care to patients with cardiac arrhythmias and multiple complicated comorbidities who are undergoing invasive and non-invasive procedures, such as catheter ablations and cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) and other related EP treatments and procedures. Serves patients in the inpatient and outpatient environment in a patient-centered care model of practice in a Magnet Recognized large academic medical center with Level One Trauma Designation, ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) Receiving Center Designation, Chest Pain Center Accreditation, Advanced Certification in Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) and Comprehensive Stroke Center (CSC) Accreditation. Serves as a key member of the Cardiac Specialty and Mechanical Circulation Support (MCS) team and works collaboratively Structural Heart team comprised of Mitra Clip and TAVR, ECMO, ACHD, and LAAO medical directors and team physicians, Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and multidisciplinary team members. Understands the uniqueness of cardiac diseases and the sensitivity of communicating with patients facing the unknown of a serious critical illness. Intervenes as a patient advocate as appropriate. Evaluates EP and program candidates and coordinates access to care based on established criteria. Applies specialized EP case management and care coordination methodologies and practices to provide a seamless multidisciplinary approach to care across the continuum. Understands the uniqueness of cardiac failure and the sensitivity of communicating with patients facing the unknown of a serious cardiac condition. Demonstrates expertise in service recovery methodologies and capably resolves issues from dissatisfied customers. Intervenes as a patient advocate as appropriate. Ensures effective utilization of resources, optimal care coordination and the provision of cutting-edge quality care for this specific patient population. Maintains electronic EP database(s) as required for related program accreditation and tracking performance metrics. Builds meaningful reports and presents data to leadership team(s) and quality committees for a systematic and logical approach to the decision making process to improve patient safety, clinical outcomes, financial performance and customer satisfaction. Supports clinical and translational research activities and participates in Institutional Review Board (IRB) approved research that improves outcomes and quality of life for critical ill patients with cardiovascular disease and multiple complicated comorbidities. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in nursing required. Master's Degree in nursing preferred. Minimum of three years' experience caring for patients with cardiac diseases required. Cardiac intensive care nursing experience preferred.
Knowledge and Skills: Substantial knowledge of cardiovascular diseases and related aspects of care requiring specialized treatment and care to patients with cardiac arrhythmias and multiple complicated comorbidities undergoing invasive and non-invasive electrophysiology procedures required. Knowledge of state and federal healthcare regulations and accreditation, finance, performance improvement, quality, patient safety, evidenced-based clinical practice standards, medical staff structure, legal aspects of care, and nursing scope of practice required. Work effectively with others. Knowledge and application of adult learning principles, management and utilize problem-solving methodologies in a proactive and creative manner. Use sound judgement based on factual information and clinical knowledge. Maintain confidentiality. Able to read; write legibly; speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer and software programs necessary to the position; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment. Relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; collaborate; accept direction. Effectively communicate in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Able to distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace/patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.
Licensures and Certifications: Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license required. Basic life Support (BLS) certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association required.
