Job description

About AdeptID
AdeptID is building the AI-first Talent Company to solve talent shortages at scale. Our talent matching technology is embedded in ATS, HCM, and job boards, enabling workflows across recruiting, job search, and career navigation. Our API-first strategy does more than create revenue: it generates training data, strengthens our models, and advances our mission to match every person to the right job.
We are now applying that same technology, data, and network to build an AI-first staffing business, starting in healthcare, designed to deliver faster placements and stronger matches. Many ATS platforms have tried to build their own search and match, only to learn it is slower, costlier, and riskier than expected: AdeptID has shown early partners that our APIs are better, safer, faster, and cheaper than building in-house.
Our API business and our staffing business reinforce each other: the same core software and data power both, the API business sharpens the matching technology, and the staffing business puts it to work placing people. Backed by leading investors, we have a healthy balance sheet and are in an ambitious growth phase: investing in technology, acquiring staffing businesses, and building the team that will define the next generation of talent matching.
The Role
We are hiring an Engineering Manager to own the software that powers how we match talent: our core AI services and the APIs that deliver them to some of the largest HR technology organizations in the world, as well as our own staffing business. This is a player-coach role built for an experienced engineer roughly two years into leading others: you will spend about half your time hands-on in the code and the other half leading. You will set technical direction, grow the team (a few engineers today, with more to come), and own delivery for the matching platform, which already serves millions of inferences (talent matches/recommendations) a month and has real work ahead in scaling, reliability, and functionality expansion. Every improvement you ship makes matches better and faster, and helps connect people with jobs
Key Responsibilities
  • Own the matching platform end to end: the production AI matching services and the public and internal APIs that serve them
  • Stay hands-on: write and review code, set technical standards, and lead the hardest parts of the build yourself
  • Manage and grow a small team of engineers, running planning, one-on-ones, and career development
  • Partner with Data Science to move AI models from research into reliable, low-latency production services
  • Own reliability, latency, and cost of the matching APIs, including monitoring, alerting, and on-call practices
  • Balance the needs of external API partners and our own staffing business, and help set priorities when they compete
  • Work with Product and Operations to turn business needs into a roadmap, then ship it in fast iterations

What We're Looking For
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, with around 2 years leading or managing other engineers
  • Strong hands-on coding skills in Python, and the judgment to know when to build, buy, or simplify
  • Experience designing, shipping, and operating production APIs and backend services at scale
  • Familiarity with a stack like ours: Python on AWS, infrastructure as code with AWS CDK, asynchronous services over SQS, and Postgres (with VectorChord for vector search)
  • Comfort working close to AI/ML systems: serving models, evaluating quality, and reasoning about latency and cost
  • A bias for shipping, backed by strong habits around code review, testing, and AI-assisted development
  • Clear communication and a genuine interest in growing the engineers around you
  • Staffing, recruiting, or HR tech experience is a plus

Why Join Now
Adept's API business already powers millions of matches each month, and we are combining it with an AI-first staffing business to create a unique position in the market. We have secured capital for an ambitious growth phase and are investing in the technology and data capabilities that will define the next generation of staffing.
