Northrop Grumman Defense Systems sector (NGDS) is seeking a Systems Engineer or Principal Systems Engineer to join our growing team of diverse professionals. The selected candidate will be motivated, energetic, and willing to learn. The candidate will support Agile development of MS Windows and cloud-based solutions as a Product Owner and Systems Engineer, performing engineering analysis to define internal and external interfaces, data and user workflows, system architecture and design for new capabilities, as part of the Mission Planning and Decision Support Operating Unit (OU).

All work must be performed on-site in either Melbourne, FL or Manhattan Beach, CA

Daily responsibilities include:

  • Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, requirements maturation, interface definition, detailed trade studies, to translate customer requirements into software specifications
  • Develop and maintain engineering artifacts, drawings, documentation and support generation of reports and CDRLs related updates.
  • Develop User Stories and Acceptance Criteria for the mission planning products
  • Work closely with software development team to implement new capabilities and ensure requirements are met
  • Support iterative development of UI/UX concepts and designs with customer feedback
  • Ensure compliance with engineering processes and standards and contribute to technical problem-solving efforts to mitigate risks and resolve issues
  • Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints
  • May include travel to other locations

Basic Qualifications for Systems Engineer:

  • BS or higher degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics or Physics from an ABET accredited university
  • 2+ years of experience OR 0 years experience with a master's degree in a related discipline
  • 1+ years experience in one or more of the following Systems Engineering activities: operational concept/workflow development, interface analysis, requirements development and management, authoring engineering reports and documentation, participation in major milestones, design reviews
  • 1+ years experience as a Systems Engineer or Product Owner on an Agile software development effort
    • User Story Development, Backlog Refinement, Release Planning
  • Knowledge of system engineering design methods, including requirements analysis and flow-down, specification derivation and interface control documentation
  • Knowledge of electromagnetic theory in the RF spectrum, signals processing
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance investigated within the last 5 years
  • Ability to obtain and maintain SAP clearance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work on-site in Manhattan Beach (CA) or Melbourne (FL)

Basic Qualifications for Principal Systems Engineer:

  • BS or higher degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics or Physics from an ABET accredited university
  • 5+ years of experience OR 3 years experience with a master's degree in a related discipline
  • 2+ years experience in one or more of the following Systems Engineering activities: operational concept/workflow development, leadership role in interface analysis, requirements development and management, primary author on engineering reports and documentation, leadership role in milestones, design reviews
  • 1+ years experience as a Systems Engineer or Product Owner on an Agile software development effort
    • User Story Development, Backlog Refinement, Release Planning
  • Knowledge of system engineering design methods, including requirements analysis and flow-down, specification derivation and interface control documentation
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles and processes
  • Experience applying knowledge of electromagnetic theory, RF propagation, signals processing, e.g., designing, developing, integrating, and/or testing role.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Demonstrated ability to assimilate new concepts quickly and independently and work in a self-directed manner
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance investigated within the last 5 years

Primary Level Salary Range: $79,300.00 - $91,800.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $171,000.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
