Position Summary
We are seeking a Junior Systems Engineer to support the development, integration, testing, and operation of simulation-based systems. This role is ideal for an early-career engineer interested in modeling and simulation, software development, systems integration, and technical troubleshooting.
The Junior Systems Engineer will work with team of technicians and end users to configure simulation environments, develop supporting software and tools, investigate technical issues, and maintain system documentation.
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the design, development, configuration, and maintenance of simulation systems and environments.
  • Integrate software, hardware, models, databases, and third-party components.
  • Support simulation exercises, demonstrations, testing events, and operator training.
  • Troubleshoot simulation software, system interfaces, network connectivity, data flows, and performance issues.
  • Create and execute test plans, procedures, test cases, and validation activities.
  • Collect and analyze logs, system data, and simulation results to identify defects or unexpected behavior.
  • Document system architectures, configurations, interfaces, requirements, procedures, and known issues.
  • Use version-control and issue-tracking systems to manage configurations, defects, and enhancements.
  • Assist with software builds, releases, deployments, and configuration management.
  • Collaborate with users and subject-matter experts to translate operational needs into technical requirements.
  • Provide technical support and training to simulation operators and other users.
  • Escalate complex issues while supporting root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Participate in design reviews, code reviews, integration activities, and continuous improvement efforts.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related technical field-or equivalent practical experience.
  • Understanding of the software development lifecycle and basic systems-engineering principles.
  • Familiarity with Windows and/or Linux environments.
  • Basic knowledge of networking, including TCP/IP, UDP, ports, addressing, and client-server communication.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical problems methodically and interpret logs or diagnostic information.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary engineering and operational teams.
  • Willingness to learn unfamiliar simulation platforms, protocols, and technical domains.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Academic, internship, project, or professional experience involving modeling and simulation.
  • Exposure to real-time, distributed, constructive, virtual, or hardware-in-the-loop simulation.
  • Familiarity with simulation interoperability standards such as HLA, DIS, or related protocols.
  • Experience with Git or another version-control platform.
  • Familiarity with Agile development, requirements management, and issue-tracking tools.
  • Experience with automated testing, data analysis, visualization, or continuous-integration pipelines.
  • Knowledge of databases, APIs, message queues, or system interfaces.
  • Exposure to Unity, Unreal Engine, MATLAB/Simulink, LabVIEW, or other simulation and visualization platforms.
  • Familiarity with virtual machines, containers, or cloud-based development environments.
  • Experience supporting live demonstrations, laboratory environments, training systems, or test events.

Work Requirements
  • Some travel may be required to support integration, testing, demonstrations, or customer events.
