Battelle's Cyber team is seeking motivated Systems Engineer to support our Cyber Trust and Assurance division from our offices in Columbus, OH.
The ideal candidate will have a background in electronics, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or data science, and a strong interest in working with complex, cyber-physical systems. These positions offer the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects involving satellites, unmanned aerial systems (UAS), and advanced microelectronics.
Responsibilities
  • Decompose complex systems and develop system models to assess risk and performance including specification sheets, log files, schematics, sensor outputs, firmware images, source code, simulation data, and network traffic to interpret system behavior and inform model development..
  • Work with cyber-physical systems, such as UAS, with a focus on microelectronics.
  • Utilize statistical methods to support data analysis and model validation.
  • Apply large language models (LLMs) and other AI tools to process and analyze unstructured data.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality technical solutions.

Key Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 5 years of experience; or master's degree in related field with 2 years of experience in systems engineering or a related discipline.
  • Proficiency in modern data pipelines and model optimization techniques
  • Experience with edge AI inference architectures (beyond general-purpose use of tools like Copilot, ChatGPT, or Claude).
  • Familiarity with large language models (LLMs)
  • Hands-on experience with edge AI inference networks, rather than surface-level use of general LLM tools
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Holds an Active DOD Secret clearance
  • Must be willing and able to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance after hire.
  • Must be willing to work a hybrid schedule from our Columbus, OH offices.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with cyber-physical systems, such as satellites or unmanned aerial systems.
  • Knowledge of microelectronics or semiconductor manufacturing.
  • Prior experience handling Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) or working in a cleared environment.
  • Proficiency in Python or other scripting languages for data analysis, automation, or system integration tasks
  • Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools (such as Cameo, Enterprise Architect, or similar) and an understanding of MBSE methodologies and processes
  • Experience applying the MITRE ATT&CK and MITRE DEFEND frameworks for threat modeling, security assessment, or defensive strategy development
  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance
