Their work involves troubleshooting, system integration, and maintaining system performance throughout the lifecycle.

What are systems engineers?

Systems engineers are professionals who design, integrate, and manage complex systems throughout their life cycles. They work across various industries, ensuring that all aspects of a project or system—hardware, software, processes, and people—work together efficiently and effectively. Systems engineers coordinate between different engineering teams, address technical and organizational challenges, and ensure requirements are met. Their role often involves both big-picture thinking and attention to detail to deliver reliable and scalable solutions.

Job description

Systems Engineer
Department: Research and Development
Reports To: Vice President of Research and Development
B amp;L Information Systems is looking for a Systems Engineer to join our team in Bridgman, MI. If you’re someone who can size up a problem on your own, think through it from a few angles, and land on a solution that’s both practical and a little clever — and you’re just as comfortable doing that alongside a team as you are heads-down……. We would love to connect with you!
About Us
B amp;L Information Systems has been a leading provider of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software for the foundry and die casting industries since 1976. Headquartered in Bridgman, MI, we deliver a reliable, cloud-based, industry-leading solution backed by a highly experienced team of business professionals.
About the Role
We’re looking for a Systems Engineer who wants to grow into an AI-focused role. You’ll start with a foot in both worlds — keeping our Azure cloud and Odyssey ERP platform running smoothly — while taking on a growing share of the AI work that’s reshaping how our product and our team operate.
The AI side is where this role is heading. You’ll help build LLM-powered features into Odyssey itself, develop internal AI tools and agents that automate work across the company, and dig into prompt engineering as we figure out what these systems can really do. A lot of this is greenfield — you’ll have real ownership over what gets built and how.
The infrastructure side keeps the lights on. You’ll support and maintain our Azure environment, build monitoring tools and utilities, and handle the configuration and administration of our cloud servers, networks, and core systems. Expect to write code — modern application and database work is part of the job, not separate from it.
You’ll work directly with people across B amp;L, our customers, and our vendors, so you should be comfortable talking to humans as well as machines. Systems Engineers also rotate through after-hours on-call to keep the cloud and office infrastructure healthy.
Why this role is worth a look
You don’t need to already be an AI engineer — you need to want to become one. We’ll give you real projects, real autonomy, and a clear path from “Systems Engineer who does some AI work” to “AI-focused engineer who knows the infrastructure cold.” That combination is rarer than it sounds, and it’s a strong place to build from.
What you’ll be doing
  • Help architect, configure, and optimize our internal and Azure-based cloud network infrastructure — balancing performance, availability, and cost
  • Design and code internal tools, utilities, and monitoring systems that keep our cloud environment healthy
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for deploying Odyssey ERP
  • Manage and tune our internal and external databases, including regular maintenance and performance reviews
  • Perform preventative maintenance across internal and external networks
  • Evaluate new hardware, software, and communications tools for compatibility and fit
  • Maintain clear, current technical documentation
  • Help train teammates and level up the technical skills across B amp;L
  • Partner with the technology team lead on systems standards, project planning, and long-term strategy
  • Participate in a rotating after-hours on-call schedule to support the B amp;L Cloud and core office infrastructure
What we’re looking for
  • 2+ years of related experience, including at least 2 years managing networks
  • Associate’s degree in IT or equivalent experience
  • Comfortable writing scripts in PowerShell (or similar)
  • Able to write and read basic SQL
Bonus points for
  • Experience building or integrating with LLMs, MCP servers, and MCP connectors
  • 2+ years managing Microsoft 365 environments
  • 2+ years managing Linux environments
  • 2+ years supporting an ERP or similar database-driven system
  • 2+ years working with SQL-based databases
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT or a related field
Compensation
  • $70,000.00 – $85,000.00 base salary
  • This is a bonus eligible position.
  • Candidates can expect salary offers that range from the minimum to the midpoint of the salary range.
  • B amp;L provides full pay range so candidates can consider their growth potential.
Benefits
  • Incredible health benefits (Traditional and HSA options), with dental and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) plan with employer match.
  • Paid time off as well as company holidays, sick leave, bereavement leave, and 4 weeks of fully paid parental bonding leave.
  • Short and long-term disability and life insurance.
  • Additional optional benefits include wellness and tuition reimbursement.
Additional Details
  • This is a hybrid position that requires 3 days per week at our Bridgman office and allows 2 days per week of working from home.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
  • This role requires the candidate to have the authority to work in and located in the US.
