Summer School Building Leader

Managing a summer school program requires a unique blend of high-energy leadership, operational efficiency, and a focus on rapid student progress. Because summer sessions are condensed, the Building Leader must be able to establish a positive culture and functional routines in a very short timeframe.

Job Title: Summer School Building Leaderย 

Job Summary:

The Summer School Building Lead provides high-level administrative, instructional, and operational leadership for the summer learning program. This role is responsible for establishing a positive school culture, ensuring instructional fidelity, managing complex logistics, and maintaining rigorous compliance with state and district regulations. The Lead serves as the primary point of contact for staff, families, and external partners, ensuring a safe and productive environment.

Core Responsibilities:

1. Instructional Leadership & Staff Supervision

  • Staff Support: Provide daily support to teachers and support staff; conduct informal observations to ensure high-quality instruction
  • Curriculum Collaboration: Maintain a direct line of communication with the Curriculum Instructional Lead to ensure curriculum fidelity and address the specific needs of teachers, paraprofessionals, and student workers.
  • Professional Learning: Lead orientation sessions and weekly staff meetings to align on instructional goals, student progress, and operational needs.
  • Instructional Prep: Plan and coordinate dedicated time before the program starts to allow teachers to organize and set up their classrooms effectively.

2. Operations & Logistics

  • Site Setup: Establish and maintain a functional summer school office
  • Attendance & Scheduling: Monitor daily student attendance and manage teacher schedules/duty rosters.
  • Safety & Security:
    • Implement and oversee building safety protocols, including fire drills
    • Maintain a consistent presence before and after sessions to monitor the safety of all students and staff, including transportation, parent pick-up, and sign-out.
  • Service Coordination: Liaise with transportation, food services, and custodial departments to ensure seamless daily operations.
  • Resource Management: Oversee the procurement, distribution, and collection of instructional materials, technology, and supplies.

3. Student Support & Culture

  • Behavior Management: Serve as the primary lead for student discipline, utilizing restorative practices and maintaining a positive school climate.
  • Family Engagement: Maintain open lines of communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress, attendance issues, or behavioral concerns.
  • Community Engagement: Plan and implement a parent/caregiver Open House with a specific emphasis on showcasing student work and academic progress.
  • Enrollment Tracking: Manage student attendance records and oversee enrollment transitions and waitlists during the program's initial phase.
  • Emergency Records: Manage the distribution and systematic collection of student emergency forms.

4. Personnel, Data & Compliance

  • Staff Administration: Monitor and manage staff attendance (sign-in/sign-out). Distribute, collect, and verify staff timesheets in accordance with the district pay schedule.
  • Compliance Documentation: Create and maintain the state-mandated summer school binder, including applications, correspondence, policies, emergency information, attendance records, assessment results, and student work samples.
  • Program Partnerships: Coordinate schedules and logistics for outside program partnerships.
  • Program Close-out:
    • Inventory and organize all curriculum materials according to Literacy and Math checklists.
    • Prepare pallets for material pick-up at the conclusion of the program.
    • Submit all completed compliance binders to the Summer School Coordinator.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Education: ย ย ย  Master's degree in educational leadership or a related field
  • Certification: 092 Administrative Certification
  • Experience: ย ย  Minimum of 5 years of classroom teaching experience; prior administrative or leadership experience preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong crisis-management and problem-solving abilities.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication.
    • Proficiency with Student Information Systems (SIS) for attendance and grading.

Compensation: $200 Daily Stipendย 

Funding:ย Special Fundsย 

Must be able to commit to working the entire Summer School, including the Professional Learning days leading up to the first day of Summer School.
