Position Summary
The Summer Discovery Sports Camp Coach is responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising recreational and athletic activities for students participating in the Summer Discovery Program. The coach will create a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment that promotes teamwork, sportsmanship, physical fitness, leadership, and positive youth development.
The Sports Camp Coach will facilitate structured sports activities, monitor student behavior, ensure participant safety, and contribute to a positive summer learning experience for all students.
Coach Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan and lead daily sports and recreational activities for students in grades 1 10.
  • Teach fundamental skills and rules related to various sports and physical activities.
  • Promote teamwork, inclusion, good sportsmanship, and respectful behavior among participants.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all students during activities.
  • Supervise students at all times, including transitions, indoor activities, outdoor activities, and field trips.
  • Manage equipment and maintain an organized and safe activity area.
  • Address student conflicts and behavioral concerns using positive behavior management strategies.
  • Assist with student attendance and accountability procedures.
  • Collaborate with other Summer Discovery staff to support program goals and student engagement.
  • Provide basic first aid and immediately report injuries, incidents, or safety concerns to program administration.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development as required.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students and represent the district in a professional manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Site Coordinator or Program Administrator.

Coach Requirements and Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with children or youth in educational, recreational, athletic, or camp settings.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of sports, recreation, and youth engagement activities.
  • Ability to effectively supervise groups of students in active environments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and families.
  • Ability to pass all required background checks.
