What is a Discovery Internship?

A Discovery Internship is an early career internship program designed for undergraduate students to explore various business areas within a company, such as consulting, audit, tax, or advisory services. These internships typically provide hands-on experience, mentorship, and professional development opportunities, allowing interns to gain insight into different roles and industries. The goal is to help students discover their interests and potential career paths while building valuable skills and networks. Discovery Internships are often offered by large firms, such as Deloitte, and are usually targeted at freshmen or sophomores.

During a Discovery Internship, you can expect to work on a variety of hands-on projects that expose you to different areas within the organization, such as client research, data analysis, and team-based problem-solving tasks. Interns often collaborate with professionals from multiple departments, participate in workshops, and support ongoing projects that contribute to real business outcomes. This experience is designed to give you a broad overview of the company’s operations and help you identify areas where you might want to specialize in the future. The dynamic and supportive environment encourages asking questions and networking with both peers and mentors.
