Job description

POSITION: Long-Term Substitute for Grade 7 Math Teacher 

Putnam Middle School is seeking an innovative and motivated Long-Term Substitute Math Teacher for 7th grade. The ideal candidate will creatively and collaboratively inspire a love of mathematics and problem-solving, delivering high-quality instruction that supports student achievement and critical thinking. We are looking for an educator who can build a caring, supportive classroom environment that helps each student reach their potential while exploring the complexities of mathematical concepts. Putnam Middle School offers a strong, collaborative culture of caring educators who leverage resources to nurture and challenge our students. Putnam facilitates strong district-wide alignment and support across all three schools in the district to ensure the student's educational experience prepares them for the real world.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Instructional Design: Design and implement engaging lessons in line with grade-level curriculum and state standards.

  • Classroom Culture: Foster a classroom environment built on mutual respect, intellectual curiosity, and inclusivity.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with the 7th-grade team to support interdisciplinary learning and holistic student well-being.

  • Data-Driven Practice: Utilize assessment data to differentiate instruction and meet the diverse needs of all learners.

  • Communication: Maintain open and professional communication with students, families, and administration.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certification: Valid CT Teaching License/Certificate with appropriate endorsement (029 or 229), or eligibility for certification.
  • Experience: Previous middle school classroom teaching experience preferred.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of
  • Skills: Excellent classroom management, communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills. 
  • Background Check: Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and meet all district employment requirements

 START DATE: Anticipated to be August 27, 2026 November 24, 2026

RATE OF PAY: $160.00 per day. 

  • Beginning on day 41, a certified substitute teachers' rate of pay will be based on the first step of the teachers' contract.
