Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise shift-based NOC operators supporting multiple linear networks, single live events (SLEs), and FAST channels  
  • Monitor, maintain, and manage satellite, fiber, terrestrial, and cloud-based distribution paths  
  • Lead real-time execution of high-profile live events and serve as the decision authority during live incidents, including schedule adjusts, playlist manipulations, and contingency execution  
  • Ensure the reliability of on-air schedules in a fast-paced environment, and work to maintain 99.999% on-air availability and reliability for all channels 
  • Manage and provide oversight into daily maintenance events across the full distribution ecosystem to ensure limited consumer impact 
  • Ensure proper scheduling and supervise a shift of technical operators, providing clear communication and decisive actions during live, taped, and/or contingency programming 
  • Facilitate day-of-air issue resolution between all NBCU departments (including Sales Ops, Engineering, Programming, On-Air Scheduling and Promotions) 
  • Act as the point of contact to brand leaders to coordinate daily schedules and broadcast execution 
  • Lead operational triage, root-cause analysis, and post-incident reporting for issues affecting the on-air operation 
  • Develop and distribute detailed scheduling plans and transmission information for live events while being able to execute transmission tasks like fiber bookings and fax-throughs as required 
  • Maintain and contribute to SOPs, guidelines, and training documentation 
  • Lead the execution of live events on Peacock and all Sports, News, and Entertainment networks such as Olympics, MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, Golf, Watch What Happens Live, and Premiere League soccer 
  • Manage the execution and decision-making for all live events, including in-event issue resolution and off-air adjustments, including, but not limited to schedule slides, join in progress and leave in progress. 
  • Serve as the point of contact for same-day Record/Turnarounds process to ensure reliable records and playbacks 
  • Support NBC Broadcast Network and Telemundo’s 24x7 disaster recovery operation 
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of distribution ecosystem, including but not limited to production / contribution workflows, broadcast signal chains, various distribution paths, and Partner platform handoffs 
  • Familiarity with testing, monitoring, and analytical tools such as TAG, Splunk, and Dataminer 
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3+ yrs experience in an on-air broadcast, digital, or network broadcast operation  
  • 3+ yrs experience exhibiting overall understanding and knowledge of the television production process, broadcast operations, and news/sports/entertainment technical production requirements 
  • 3+ yrs work experience showing strong computer, communication, and facilitation skills 
  • 3+ yrs work experience in a fast-paced environment requiring troubleshooting and process skills, and exhibiting an ability to effectively lead, prioritize, and adapt to changing scenarios 

Desired Characteristics:

  • BA/BS in related field 
  • 3+ yrs experience in leading the execution of live television events 
  • 3+ years in a leadership role in a fast-paced environment requiring troubleshooting and processing skills, plus an ability to effectively lead, prioritize and adapt to changing scenarios
  • 3+ yrs experience demonstrating the ability to effectively lead, prioritize, energize, and coach others 
  • Extensive and significant experience, understanding and knowledge of digital broadcast and production technical systems, standards and processes and television production, broadcast operations, and/or news/sports/entertainment technical production requirements
  • Technical experience with automated, real-time systems, digital video and audio, troubleshooting and test techniques 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
