Job Summary
This full-time position is responsible for providing customer service and oversight for the library during assigned hours. Working primarily evening and/or weekend hours, the person holding this position must demonstrate maturity and professionalism in dealing with library customers. Good decision-making skills are required. Working familiarity with computers and printers is required. Assisting library customers with technological issues will be a routine responsibility. The library Circulation Associate must be comfortable working independently as well as with others.

Essential Job Duties
  • Monitor the service desks and customer activity on the library's first floor.
  • Greet and assist all library patrons while maintaining a helpful and courteous attitude.
  • Learn to fully operate the OCLC WorldShareTM computer system; assist library customers and student workers in the use of WorldShare.
  • Maintain order in the library while demonstrating professionalism in all encounters.
  • Coordinate the orderly shelving of books and other library materials.
  • Maintain operational continuity among the library work teams and departments by documenting and communicating relevant actions and information.
  • Learn and develop knowledge of basic research techniques to assist patrons.
  • Troubleshoot and assist coworkers and patrons with library technology.
  • Provide a basic level of reference and referral service.
  • Maintain all patrons use copiers and printers during assigned hours.
  • Monitor and assist student library workers in their areas of responsibility.
Other Job Duties
  • Work with Safety and Security personnel to monitor all areas of the library to ensure a safe and orderly environment for patrons.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned by the Director for Library Services.

Required Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in a related field or an appropriate combination of four years of college education and professional work experience is preferred. Good communication and customer service skills are required. Good computer skills, maturity, and professionalism are also required.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated experience working in a library or information center.

Successful candidates must be professing Christians who are active members of a local church, enthusiastically support Union University's Identity, Mission, Core Values, and Statement of Faith, and articulate a Christian worldview in their work and life.
