Job description

Callan is seeking an Associate Consultant (Analyst) to join our Atlanta, GA Fund Sponsor Consulting Group. In this role, you will support consultants in assisting clients with strategic planning, performance evaluation, plan implementation, education, and business development. You will collaborate with specialty research teams to support the delivery of solutions to institutional clients, including corporate and public retirement plans, endowments and foundations, healthcare systems, and more on both a discretionary or non-discretionary basis. We are looking for someone with a strong interest in capital markets, exceptional project management skills, strong communication skills, intellectual curiosity, and a passion for building lasting client relationships. Strong attention to detail and effective written and verbal communication skills are essential.
This role provides a foundation for long-term growth at the firm. Over time, as you gain experience and take on greater responsibility, you may have the opportunity to develop into an investment consultant and manage client relationships.
This role requires a hybrid schedule with three in-office days each week, Tuesday through Thursday.

Primary Duties
Strategic Planning:
  • Assist the consulting team in developing project plans and annual reviews
  • Coordinate quarterly prep meetings with consulting teams to ensure client needs are met on a timely basis
  • Engage with Callan team members in researching and developing strategic advice and asset allocation analysis
  • Support the consulting team in providing guidance to clients as they navigate financial markets and their own changing circumstances
  • Draft/review investment policy statements
  • Ensure timely delivery of reports produced by other teams within the firm, including keeping projects on schedule and conducting detailed reviews of materials

Performance Evaluation:
  • Work closely with the performance measurement team and assist consultants in monitoring existing client portfolios by understanding and reviewing monthly and quarterly performance measurement and ad-hoc reports and ensure accuracy of results
  • Take ownership over the production of custom quarterly executive summary reports and commentary, which are presented during client staff, committee, and board meetings
  • Create detailed analysis and commentary at the total fund level, asset class level, and investment manager level
  • Prepare ad-hoc client presentations as needed
  • Willingness and ability to learn Callan's internal tools for performance review and analysis

Plan Implementation:
  • Assist in investment manager/strategy research as needed
  • Draft/review client and manager profiles for specific client manager searches
  • Coordinate meetings with the internal teams, investment managers, and clients
  • Serve as a liaison with clients, investment managers, and other areas of the firm
  • Assist consultants with a variety of strategic client projects, including managing processes and ensuring quality

Client Education:
  • Assist in researching special topics for consultants and clients
  • Assist in developing customized educational information and/or seminars for clients
  • Customize quarterly capital markets information as needed
  • Present at educational workshops and webinars

New Business Development:
  • Collaborate with consultants and other departments to manage responses to requests for proposal, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, well-written, and timely materials
  • Assist in general marketing efforts as needed
  • Assist in researching and providing consultants with information to build a successful relationship with prospective clients

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, preferably in finance, economics, or a related discipline (we are also open to those with differing backgrounds and a strong interest in financial markets)
  • 1 - 5 years of work experience preferred, particularly in the investment industry
  • Progress toward or interest in earning the CFA and/or CAIA designation, if not yet earned
