Their work often includes business planning, market entry analysis, and advising on mergers or acquisitions. Strategy professionals can work in-house for a company, in consulting firms, or as independent advisors.

How does a strategy professional typically collaborate with other departments within an organization?

Strategy professionals frequently work cross-functionally, collaborating with teams such as finance, marketing, operations, and product development to align organizational goals and drive business initiatives. This involves gathering input from various departments, facilitating workshops, and ensuring all stakeholders are engaged in the decision-making process. Regular communication and project management skills are essential, as strategy professionals often act as a bridge between executive leadership and operational teams. This collaborative environment fosters a holistic understanding of the organization, enabling strategy professionals to develop solutions that are both innovative and practical.

Job description

Manager, Social Strategy/Channel Strategy
This is a hybrid role that is to be based near our office in New York City
About us:
We drive intelligent growth for ambitious businesses and leading brands.
Customer understanding is more potent and drives greater value when insights go to work directly within marketing and experience priorities. To give our clients that advantage, we put an insights-driven operating system at the core of our design, go-to-market and digital experience solutions.
Material clients make smarter growth choices because they can see clearly how and when to take the shots that count. Together, we connect consumer intelligence with customer demand generation to build lasting, profitable relationships.
About the Manager, Social Strategy/Channel Strategy Role
Material's Channel Strategy Team is seeking a Manager, Social Strategy to architect end-to-end, multi-channel engagement strategies that drive measurable growth across the modern customer journey.
In this role, you will bridge the gap between insights, channels, and business outcomes. While you bring deep expertise in paid and organic social media, you think holistically across the entire digital ecosystem - connecting social touchpoints to CRM, performance media, content marketing, digital experiences, and lifecycle marketing.
As a core member of the team, you will partner cross-functionally with Creative, Media, Analytics, Insights, and Client Services to translate consumer behavior into connected, omni-channel ecosystems. You are equal parts strategist, storyteller, and trusted advisor - someone who can orchestrate how diverse channels work together to build brand relevance, deepen loyalty, and accelerate conversion.
Key Responsibilities
  • Social Strategy Expertise: Own end-to-end paid and organic social strategies for client accounts, translating business goals and consumer insights into actionable platform frameworks, content pillars, and activation plans.

  • Integrated Marketing Strategy: Apply expertise across social, paid media, CRM, and digital marketing channels to shape omni-channel strategies, define the role of social within the broader marketing ecosystem, and create connected customer experiences.

  • Audience & Ecosystem Mapping: Guide clients on social platform selection, audience segmentation, content flighting, and messaging approaches tailored to where consumers are in their journey (from awareness to retention).

  • Insight & Trend Translation: Synthesize social listening, performance data, consumer research, and cultural trends into clear strategic narratives and actionable client recommendations.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Creative, Media, Analytics, and Research teams to align social concepts with broader campaign goals, ensuring cohesive execution and closed-loop measurement.

  • Measurement & Optimization: Establish social KPIs and measurement frameworks that evaluate channel performance and quantify social's contribution to broader marketing and business outcomes. Develop and present performance reporting that translates data into compelling narratives, actionable insights, and strategic recommendations.

  • Client Advisory & Workshops: Serve as a day-to-day strategic partner for clients-presenting recommendations, facilitating strategic sessions, and articulating the value of connected social strategy.

Experience & Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of experience in channel strategy, digital marketing, engagement strategy, or integrated strategy, preferably within an agency setting.

  • Omni-Channel Expertise: Proven track record of developing connected strategies that integrate paid/organic social, CRM/email, performance media, content, and web experiences.

  • Social Mastery + Ecosystem Vision: Deep hands-on knowledge of paid and organic social platforms (Meta, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Reddit, etc.) alongside a strong understanding of how social drives and feeds broader customer journeys.

  • Strategic Storytelling: Exceptional ability to distill complex data, research, and technical channel nuances into clear, compelling narratives for executive audiences.

  • Data-Driven Mindset: Experience building integrated measurement frameworks, working with social listening tools, and leveraging audience intelligence to inform strategy.

Core Competencies & Tool Proficiency
  • Strategy & Insight Tools: Social listening & intelligence platforms (e.g., Brandwatch, Meltwater, Sprinklr, NetBase) and audience segmentation frameworks.

  • Channel Architecture: Deep familiarity with paid media ad platforms, CRM/lifecycle integration, and creator/influencer ecosystems.

  • Analytics & Measurement: Performance reporting, KPI dashboard development, multi-touch attribution concepts, and campaign optimization.

  • Presentation: Advanced capability in PowerPoint/Slides for crafting executive-level strategic decks.
