They work closely with clients to ensure satisfaction, identify new business opportunities, and coordinate internal resources to deliver tailored solutions. This role often involves collaborating with sales, marketing, and product teams to provide a seamless client experience and achieve revenue targets.

What does a strategic account manager do?

A strategic account manager works in various industries, including eCommerce, hospitality, and healthcare. The job is similar to sales except the focus is on long-term goals and optimization of customer accounts. In this career, you often work as part of a team to manage client relationships and create value to improve sales performance across the board. Your responsibilities include collaborating with sales staff and a variety of vendors to broker deals. You may work business-to-business or business-to-customer. Frequent travel is common in this position, and additional weekend and night hours are typical. The job is often stressful with strong pressure to meet sales objectives.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a strategic account manager, and why are they important?

To excel as a Strategic Account Manager, you need a solid background in sales, account management, and relationship building, often supported by a bachelor’s degree in business or a related field. What You'll Do:

  • Serve as the primary account owner for assigned strategic accounts
  • Achieve assigned quota for new revenue growth within assigned accounts
  • Forecast accurately within +/-5%; provide value and close dates, and accurately assess risk
  • Develop a deep understanding of each customer's business and the market they serve
  • Build relationships and rapport with customers and internal stakeholders that pertain to your mission
  • Use matrix selling and our EBC center to connect decision makers and c-level executives to relative roles within Bandwidth
  • Understand how to manage a book of business effectively, including the ability to identify key decision makers, organization mapping, identifying key accounts with opportunities, and deciding where to spend time and where to travel.
  • Utilize the ValueSelling methodology to ensure you have qualified opportunities and an agreed upon executable plan that aligns with the client's top business issue
  • Identify new opportunities to cross-sell Bandwidth global voice, messaging, and e911 solutions
  • Mitigate risk and maintain competitive contracts
  • Present strategic opportunities via Account Plans to leadership on an ongoing basis with an emphasis on quarterly and annual planning
  • Work cross-functionally with internal groups, leveraging resources for assigned accounts
  • Drive revenue generation and development of strategic partnerships

What You Need:

  • 10+ years of sales and business development experience
  • 7+ years of experience managing business development activities with large strategic or enterprise customers
  • 5+ years of experience managing existing accounts
  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field

Bonus Points:

  • Significant experience in SaaS, CPaaS, UCaaS, and/or Telecom sales is strongly preferred

The Whole Person Promise:

At Bandwidth, we're pretty proud of our corporate culture, which is rooted in our "Whole Person Promise." We promise all employees that they can have meaningful work AND a full life, and we provide a work environment geared toward enriching your body, mind, and spirit. How do we do that? Well...

  • 100% company-paid Medical, Vision, & Dental coverage for you and your family with low deductibles and low out-of-pocket expenses.
  • All new hires receive four weeks of PTO.
  • PTO Embargo. When you take time off (of any kind!) you're embargoed from working. Bandmates and managers are not allowed to interrupt your PTO - not even with email.
  • Additional PTO can be earned throughout the year through volunteer hours and Bandwidth challenges.
  • "Mahalo moments" program grants additional time off for life's most important moments like graduations, buying a first home, getting married, wedding anniversaries (every five years), and the birth of a grandchild.
  • 90-Minute Workout Lunches and unlimited meetings with our very own nutritionist.

Are you excited about the position and its responsibilities, but not sure if you're 100% qualified? Do you feel you can work to help us crush the mission? If you answered 'yes' to both of these questions, we encourage you to apply! You won't want to miss the opportunity to be a part of the BAND.
