DEPARTMENTAL SUMMARY: In addition to building case carts for surgical procedures, Sterile Processing is responsible for cleaning and sterilizing surgical instruments for all Operating Room procedures.
POSITION OVERVIEW: The Sterile Processing Supervisor at St. Charles Health System is responsible for assisting in planning, coordinating, controlling, and administering the Sterile Processing Program, as well as overseeing and performing cleaning, decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of equipment and instruments used within the Hospital. The Sterile Processing Supervisor will also work in the sterile core areas within the Operating Room. This position directly manages caregivers in Sterile Processing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
Provides technical knowledge and supervises caregivers.
Performs daily audits on all essential legal documentation.
Will travel to SCHS Redmond when requested by the organization
Manages caregivers' performance including performance review process. Prepares caregiver development plan; monitors and revises plan as needed.
Performs annual competency checks with staff and educates when necessary.
Coaches caregivers and provides recognition for positive performance. Coordinates with Sterile Processing Education
Coordinator to provide follow through with caregivers' coaching plans.
Performs corrective action as appropriate in consultation with manager. Consults with Human Resources when at written warning or above stage.
Assists with the operations of the patient care unit/service.
Assists with implementation of clinical practice changes.
Supports education coordinator with delivery of caregiver education.
Performs interviewing and hiring as delegated by the manager.
Maintains clinical/professional expertise for service. Sets an example for all technicians by staying current in developments and knowledge of practice area.
Manage caregiver schedules and adjusts for ETO, FMLA, sick calls, etc., while maintaining core staffing for department needs.
Maintains "super user knowledge" of instrument tracking system and coordinates with IT and vendor to resolve any unexpected application problems.
Hires, directs, coaches and monitors the performance of all direct reports, to develop and maintain a high performance team that meets organizational and department goals
Monitors and ensure all direct reports are current with compliance and safety requirements. Implements and manages all organizational safety directives and goals
Provides and oversees team's delivery of customer service in a manner that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient and accurate.
Collaborates with teams to review processes and identify/implement opportunities for improvements, applying Value Improvement Practice concepts and tools.
Supports the vision, mission and values of the organization in all respects.
Supports Value Improvement Practice (VIP- Lean) principles of continuous improvement with energy and enthusiasm, functioning as a champion of change.
Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients and guests.

EDUCATION:
Required: High school diploma or GED
Preferred: Associates Degree
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:
Required: Current certification in Sterile Processing required (CRCST or CBSPD).
Preferred: Advanced Sterile Processing Certification (CHL, CIS, CER or equivalent).
EXPERIENCE:
Required: 4+ years of experience as a sterile processing technician, including advanced level instrument experience required or a combination of education and similar relevant experience. Ability to deal with high stress associated with high-volume critical care departments, physicians, clinical, and support staff required.

Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Continually (75% or more): Standing, walking, lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling 1-10 pounds, grasping/squeezing, Use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level.
