The Service Porter moves and cleans vehicles, keeps the vehicles in sound working condition, and helps general manager as requested within the Service Department. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Maintains new and used vehicle inventory appearance and performance by cleaning interior and exterior of vehicles.
  • Is customer friendly and greets customers, directing them to the correct departments as needed.
  • Places buyer guides and stock tags in vehicles. 
  • Keeps new- and used-vehicle lost neat and orderly, moving cars as directed by the general manager and in accordance with dealership display standards. 
  • Sweeps, shovels, or vacuums loose debris and removes from work areas. 
  • Inspects parts, equipment, or vehicles for cleanliness, damage, and compliance with standards or regulations. 
  • Drives vehicles to and from service lanes, service stalls, and parking lot as needed. 
  • Responsible for keeping track of parked vehicles, keys, keeping vehicles locked at all times, and returning keys when not in use.  
  • Assists in keeping the dealership clean at all times, including but not limited to cleaning windows and doors, parking lots, customer areas, shops, breakrooms, etc.
  • Other tasks as assigned. 

Additional Dealer-Specific Duties May Include

  • Operating the shuttle for customer pick up and drop off. 
  • Assisting Sales Porters in completing tasks. 
  • Deliver parts, vehicles, or other items/products as needed. 
  • Greets customers entering the service area and provides direction to the correct department. 
  • May fill in as an Express Writer at times. 
  • May run the Zamboni to keep service drive clean and tidy.
  • May shuttle customer cars to manufacture locations for specialized service. 

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.  
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple instructions. 
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality. 
  • Must present excellence work ethic, punctuality, and appearance.
  • Must be able to lift and move work-related items up to 30 pounds. 
  • Must be able to push, pull, lift, and bend at the knees and waist, twist body at the waist, raise and hold arms overhead, and turn head-neck-shoulders as needed.

Education and Experience

  • Must be able to pass a background check, drug screening, and Motor Vehicle Report.
