The Automotive Buyer plans, directs, or coordinates purchasing materials, products, and services in the automotive industry. Includes wholesale or retail trade merchandising. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Duties/Responsibilities
  • Work with Operations Directors and store leadership in planning strategy for acquisition based on market/store needs.
  • Solicits proposals, negotiates price and terms, and issues purchase orders, in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Study trends and be able to analyze changes in wholesale/retail environment.
  • Achieve monthly quotas for inventory purchasing.
  • Coordinate logistics for vehicle delivery from purchase location
  • Ownership mentality for portfolio of acquisitions
  • Conducts research of suppliers to confirm products and services are competitively priced.
  • Resolves invoicing issues with accounting and suppliers.
  • Maintains purchasing information, files, and records to ensure availability of documentation and compliance with procedures.
  • Conducts costs/price analysis.
  • Maintains professional appearance.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to think and act strategically.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and commodity leadership skills
  • Well organized, self-motivated, and resourceful managing complex situations
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and able to effectively interface with cross functional teams and all levels of senior management.
  • Strong use of MS Office Suite
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in team environment.
  • Ability to manage and maximize buying opportunities within their territory.
  • Proven track record using all available technology.
  • Proven ability to appraise vehicles correctly.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including some nights and weekends.
  • Requires being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Comfortable using mobile applications for CRM and purchasing management.
  • Must be comfortable working independently, skilled at listening, problem solving and communication.
  • Must be able to work in a stationary position 90% of the time, sitting at a desk while working on the phone.
  • Range of motion and dexterity needed to operate computer, keyboard, and telephone functions in a repetitive manner.

Education and Experience
  • Previous auction and dealership selling, or marketing experience REQUIRED.
  • Preferred 2 years automotive experience in sales/purchasing or retail setting.
  • 2 Years auction/third party vehicle sourcing
  • Stockwave/Vauto experience preferred.
  • Menhein and Rapid Recon experience preferred
  • Some automotive mechanical knowledge or background to assess condition of vehicles.
  • Must be able to pass a background check, drug screen, and Motor Vehicle Report.
