Description:


The Fabrication Process Engineer is responsible for developing, documenting, and improving fabrication processes for plasma cutting, welding, bead blasting, painting, and CNC machining. This role supports new product introduction, equipment reliability, quality controls, and continuous improvement by designing tooling, troubleshooting equipment, analyzing process data, and implementing cost and efficiency improvements. The position requires strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, experience in metal fabrication, and knowledge of lean manufacturing, statistical process control, and applicable fabrication standards.


Key Job Elements


· Develop, document, and maintain standard operating procedures for all fabrication processes: plasma cutting, welding, bead blasting, paint, and CNC machining

· Support New Product Development and Continuous Improvement Efforts

· Design for manufacturability input

· Define assembly Strategy for production

· Design new assembly equipment & tooling

· Participate in PFMEA and/or DFMEA

· Collect and analyze data from assembly operations

· Improve existing fixtures and tooling

· Explore & implement cost reduction ideas

· Identify, source, and set up critical spare parts for production cells

· Able to interpret assembly and component drawings and the requirements within

· Perform routine and preventative maintenance on equipment, including robotic systems, electrical components, and controllers.

· Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment issues and perform necessary repairs and adjustments.

· Monitor equipment performance and proactively identify potential issues to prevent downtime.

· Comply with all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.

· Support Quality

· Develop and execute statistical process controls utilizing appropriate quality tools plus statistical techniques.

· DMAIC, 5Y, FMEA, 8D, RCA, etc

· Ensure fabrication processes comply with applicable standards

· AWS, ASTM, Customer-Specific, etc


Requirements


· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, or an associate degree in a related technical field with five years of applicable experience.

· Minimum of three years of experience in a metal fabrication environment.

· Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge with demonstrated troubleshooting ability.

· Experience with CNC plasma cutting equipment, MIG welding, bead blasting, industrial painting, and CNC machining equipment.

· Experience with CNC and nesting programming, including ProNest or comparable software.

· Ability to communicate effectively with design engineering, test engineering, manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams.

· Experience with lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
