The Staff Mechanical Engineer is responsible for being the technical lead on Value Engineering projects, and Supplier Transitions focused on cost savings.

This position reports to the Procurement Engineering Manager and is part of the Global Procurement Engineering Team located in Indianapolis and will be an on-site role.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Be the engineering lead for Value Engineering cost reduction redesign projects. This would include developing prototype ideas, drafting and getting approval on the Design Change Plan, performing verification testing, and transferring the new design to production.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with Development, Quality, Compliance, Service, and Operations team, on the design changes. This role ensures that these design change projects are on track to project timelines, and helps solve project roadblock/hurdles as they come up.
  • Be the engineering lead for supplier transitions. You would draft and get approval on Qualification Plans. You would work closely with the new supplier on their Component Qualification Reports and help answer any technical questions about the parts.
  • Work closely with Supplier Quality and Procurement teams on supplier selections and qualification activities for these cost savings projects. You may also need to make print update/corrections via a Change Order.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or electro-mechanical engineeringwith 9+ years' experience in product development and product engineering support role -OR- a Master's degree with 7+ years' experience
  • Experienced in using SolidWorks (Surface Modeling, Motion, and simulation), Performing Tolerance Analysis, and GD&T
  • Technical expertise in machining, die casting, extrusions, stamped metals, plastics, packaging, electronics, machine automation, linear motion

Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:

  • Ability to travel - 5% of time typically to supplier sites.
  • Ability to lift, move or carry equipment up to 20lb.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Experience with instrumentation (equipment) design and integration including complex electro-mechanical systems, fluid handling, pneumatics, thermal systems, and/or optical systems
  • Demonstrated capability to troubleshoot and improve mechanical and electromechanical systems using formal problem-solving methodology with analytical and statistical methods.
  • Experience in dealing with design changes in a structured design control/change environment for medical devices.
